How do you explain a road trip in Western Australia?

18 days. 6,000 kilometres. From 12°C mornings to 45°C afternoons. From the desert with canyons to forest and the to white beaches.

Thunderstorms, sandstorms, windstorms, heatwaves. Just waves.
Can you spot the thunder in the desert?

Dingoes, kangaroos, parrots, lizards, dolphins, pelicans, quokka and emus.

Kayaking, scuba diving, snorkelling, quad biking, climbing trees, hiking, camping, cycling, driving, running. Loving.

Every sense is switched on. The colours are violent: reds, blues, greens that don’t look real. The light is cinematic. The silence is loud.
You get dusty, salty, tired, sunburnt, overwhelmed and emotional. You feel tiny and infinite at the same time. No filters needed. Ever.

Tutti che parlano già del 2025. Io invece vorrei soffermarmi sul 2024 ancora un po’. Che poi le considerazioni le fai quando l’anno è finito davvero.

L’anno più duro della mia vita, dove la chiave è stata -ancora una volta- la resilienza.
Resilienza, che bella parola: ha senso solo quando non ti serve più, quando tutto è finito.
Una vera e propria montagna russa.

Forse alcune persone sono destinate ad avere una vita normale e un po’ noiosa. Noi no.

Ho provato a rallentare.. ma per chi è sempre alla ricerca del bello, per ha i piedi stanchi e rotti dal camminare a piedi nudi, per chi non è mai troppo cauto ci sarà sempre il dono dell’acqua, dell’aria e del fuoco.
Fuochi e fiamme. Così poi le ventate d’aria fresca te le godi ancor di più- quando arrivano. E ci piace così. Come aspettare un girasole che fiorisce.

Un ricordo speciale a chi non c’è più, vi porterò sempre con me. ❤️

Well, I am an expert at boxes, my whole life can fit inside it,
and I’ve got it down to a science.

I can pack my entire identity in an hour,
cause where there are roots, there’s power, but I’m all topsoil.

My blood runs like water and oil, refusing to stick.
My dad’s old books, read in secret nooks.
That camera that locks, all my memories in a flash, saved for then my recollection doesn’t last.
That light that sparked that fire.

All fit in a box ready to be carried,
from door to door.
But that’s not the kind of box
people ever ask for.

So many lines in the sand,
so many can’ts and cans.

I see both worlds so clearly,
and I skip and jump and dance
and fall between, never seen.

I belong in the spaces between.

They say Melbourne weather is horrible. Me, I’ve learned to appreciate it, then how to love it. Now I find it fascinating.

It’s called 4-seasons-in-one-day: it might be the hottest day and suddenly it wakes you up with cold showers.

The unexpected turnover gifts you with wonderful shades in light, colours, feelings and makes you appreciate the right moment filled with the beauty that unfolds within.

Gives you rain for 2 weeks and then the warmth of the spring’s sun rays cherish you.

Never the same, not much time goes past to get you bored and every day is a surprise.

Changes unexpectedly, a bit like me.
