Two hundred fifty years ago, a bold idea changed the world.

The signing of the Declaration of Independence marked the beginning of an enduring experiment in self-government, one that has been shaped, challenged and strengthened by generations of Americans.

To the @universityofutah community, near and far, I wish you a happy Fourth of July.

I hope you have the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, reflect on our shared history, and celebrate all that we have accomplished together as a nation.

As we look to the next 250 years, may we continue to imagine bold ideas, make inspiring discoveries, and have the courage to seize new opportunities to work together to build an even brighter future.

A new chapter for health care in Utah is taking shape at The Point.

University of Utah Health is planning a new academic health campus in one of the state’s fastest-growing regions — bringing specialty care, research-driven services and long-term innovation closer to where more Utahns live and work.

This partnership is about more than a new campus. It’s about preparing for Utah’s future, expanding access to world-class care and helping build a community designed for generations to come.

It’s official. 🖊️

Today, the University of Utah, the State of Utah, and The Point signed an agreement for 45.8 acres in Draper—laying the foundation for a proposed future health campus positioning U of U Health as the primary provider for the 600-acre community.

The vision 🏥: bring nationally ranked, specialized care closer and reduce long travel distances for Salt Lake and Utah County residents.

This morning, @uofuhealth’s Dr. Bob Carter and I had the opportunity to meet with the Northern Utah Interagency Type 3 Incident Management Team and personally thank the firefighters, first responders, and public safety professionals working on the Bonneville Fire. 
The work they do is demanding, dangerous, and essential to the safety of our communities. We left with an even greater appreciation for the extraordinary coordination and skill that has gone into protecting the @universityofutah and @uofuhealth.

On the first night of the fire, our community watched firsthand as fire crews drove directly to the fire line above @huntsmancancerinstitute and moved swiftly to protect our campus. Their professionalism under difficult circumstances was remarkable, and we owe them our sincere gratitude.

We are deeply grateful to the federal, state, county, and local teams whose efforts have helped contain this fire. Their work has safeguarded critical health care facilities and has demonstrated the very best of public service.

I want to express my deep gratitude to the firefighters, first responders, public safety personnel, and incident management teams working tirelessly on the Bonneville Fire near the @universityofutah.

We are especially grateful to Salt Lake City Fire @slcfire, Salt Lake County emergency personnel, the Northern Utah Interagency Incident Management Team, and the many federal, state, and local partners supporting this effort.

University of Utah Health @uofuhealth facilities remain operational.   At the request of fire officials, we continue to ask the community to avoid the affected areas east of campus as crews continue to work this fire.

🔬 Exceeded $520 million in research funding to advance medical discovery

Ensuring a secure learning environment across continents. 🤝 Leaders from the University of Utah Department of Public Safety—including Chief Safety Officer Keith Squires and Director of Threat Assessment Keith Livingston—recently spent time at the U Asia Campus.

Moving forward, a dedicated liaison will regularly communicate safety information, and a new, location-specific approach to campus alerts is being developed to ensure clear, timely information for overseas students and their families.

We are saddened by the loss of Karen Haight Huntsman, businesswoman and matriarch of one of Utah’s most influential philanthropic families.

“Karen Huntsman lived a life defined by compassion, generosity, and an unwavering belief in the power of healing and hope. Alongside Jon and her beloved family, she helped build one of the great philanthropic legacies in our nation’s history,” said @uofupresident Taylor Randall.

“Karen and Jon Huntsman were an unmatched pair of visionaries, equally committed to innovation, advancing research, caring for patients, and strengthening their community. Enjoyed visiting Mass General Hospital with Dr. Bob Carter as he was honored with a portrait recognizing his service to Harvard Medical School and Mass General as chair of the Department of Neurosurgery.

We’re fortunate to have Bob leading our @universityofutah Health Sciences and health system at @UofUHealth. His leadership continues to elevate our impact and shape the future of health care in Utah, the region and beyond.

We are honored to receive @preservationutah PreservationUtah Rehabilitation and Restoration Award for Fort Douglas Buildings 661, 662, and 663.

Originally built in 1891 for Army Sergeants, these homes have stood the test of time—including a 2020 windstorm that actually helped reveal original cladding materials hidden for decades! From hand-restored shingles to historically accurate paint colors, these buildings now look just as they did at the turn of the century, but with modern seismic and energy upgrades to keep them standing for another 100+ years. by @uofupresident
