Brand Identity and Packaging Design for @furinmatcha , a calm summer breeze ✿彡

The inspiration behind this brand is the Fūrin, a small Japanese wind chime: “Every time I hear its gentle sound and see the paper dancing in the breeze, everything stops for me. That cooling, relaxing sensation that washes over you, it’s a moment of pause in the chaos.”

We really want to thank @itsberbs for this super inspiring concept and beautiful collaboration, amazing to work with🎐

1 of 4 Title sequences for Far East LA (@fareastseries ) 💥🪽which had its premieres this month in LA and San Francisco.

Fully human-made (!) frame by frame animation that gave us the opportunity to have fun with colors, crafted compositions, quick rhythm and transitions.
We shared some styleframes, rough animation and a surprisingly aesthetic view of the onion skin frames :)

This episode features @yourhomegirlmona and Maceo Hernandez of @eastlataiko . Mixing influences of Chicano and Japanese-American culture and creating unique stories where personal identity blurs the boundaries.

A collection of Japanese Candies that can still be found today 🍡🍓🍧 Capturing the dagashi experience of a child in the Showa era.

01 - Strawberry Mugi Chocolate (Takaoka, Japan). Originated around 1950. Puffed wheat coated in strawberry chocolate, created as an affordable postwar chocolate snack. Chocolate was a luxury item at the time, so using a cheaper filling of light puffed wheat reduced costs while creating a satisfying treat.

02 - Apollo Chocolate (Meiji, Japan). Produced since 1969. Cone-shaped strawberry and milk chocolates inspired by the Apollo space missions. Spot the different star-shaped strawberry with a little character sitting on top.

03 - Katanuki Ramune Candy (Hashimoto, Osaka - Japan). A playful carve-out sugar candy where you try to remove the shape without breaking it. Flavored like ramune soda (lemonade) and changing only in shape.

04 - Lotte Xylitol Lime Mint Gum (Lotte, Japan / South Korea). Produced since 1997. One of Japan’s first xylitol gums, inspired by Finnish dental-health research.

05 - Mintia Wild & Cool (Asahi, Japan). Produced since 1996. Ultra thin 6mm case with a card format designed to fit everywhere.

06 - Strawberry Daifuku Marshmallow (Yaokin, Japan). Contemporary release. Marshmallow candy inspired by strawberry daifuku, adapted into an affordable dagashi format.

07 - Orion Ume Mints (Orion, Japan). Produced since 1973. Sweet-and-sour plum candies resembling miniature cigarettes, for kids wanting to imitate adults.

08 - Baolu Mint Candy / Polo Mints (Nestlé, China). Produced since 1948. Localized Chinese version of Polo Mints, famous as “the mint with a hole.” [Yes, a chinese candy snuck into the collection]

Just a very small collection of Asian Matches 🔥🧯🍑

01 - Turkish matches pruduced by Kav Kibritleri (1970)

02 - Showa style matches for Kissaten Time 喫茶タイム, a 80’s café located in Tsuyama, Okayama, Japan (1980*)

03 - Matches for the Restaurant Toyoken in Beppu, Oita, Japan. This historic Chinese restaurant, established in 1926 by a former Imperial chef, is widely recognized as the birthplace of toriten, a popular Japanese-style fried chicken dish (1980*)

04 - Sanai Resthouse matches, near Aso, Kumamoto Prefecture (you can still find the building depicted here at Senomoto Kogen Plateau) (1982*)

05 - Momo-jirushi (Peach Brand) historic Japanese match brand. The peach brand was originally established in 1917 by Toyo Match, and the trademark was later acquired and continued by Nittosha, which still maintains the traditional design these days (2023)

06 - Best Safety Match by Nittosha Company Limited’s. One of the oldest trademarks used by Nittosha, first registered in 1891. Another example of nostalgic design you can still find today (2023)

07 - Shiroya O.G.O. (オージオー) Pasticceria occidentale, sala da tè e ristorante. Kokura, Kitakyushu, Japan (1980*)

08 - Rocky [???] Cherry Matches. Help us we can’t understand the middle word and can’t find any info

09 - Futabado Bakery, Japanese and Western sweets and bread shop. Nakatsu City, Japan (1981*)

10 - Flyingman Safety Matches made in Malaysia by Sincere Match & Tobacco Factory. Apparently a very famous match design in Malaysia, reprinted many times with different variations. A friend said “It’s an old school design. if you show this to any Malaysian they will recognize it” (anni 50-60’)

11 - Rose Room, a beautiful café frozen in time. Naha, Okinawa, Japan (2024)

12 - Stork Bar Matches [We can’t find any other info]

*Many of the match boxes were bought from an amazing lady at her shop 寄り道 縁, in the Oita Prefecture, Japan.
The writing is probably indicating the collection date in the imperial era dates format (”S55” means Showa 55, corresponding to 1980)
