Congratulations to Dr. Sara Weston, who has been honored with the CAS Tykeson Teaching Award! This award recognizes faculty for excellence in teaching and pedagogical innovation.

“I try to voice my approach to teaching for students, pulling back the curtain on how I’ve chosen to approach the structure,” said Dr. Weston. “I think that helps students see that I want to work with them, like a team, rather than create a test they have to pass to move on.” taken in University of Oregon by @uopsych

Engaging Parent-Partners in Mental Health Innovations: Lessons from the BEAM Program
Collaborating with parent-partners is essential for designing effective, accessible mental health programs. BEAM (thebeamprogram.com) is a dual-generation eHealth intervention that was co-developed with a diverse advisory board to address the mental health needs of parents and children during COVID-19. It is now being implemented to support families of children born during the pandemic. BEAM integrates the best of both worlds: the accessibility and scalability of digital tools with meaningful social support provided by peer coaching, a community forum, and systems navigation.
This talk will highlight our co-development process, emphasizing the value of lived experience in shaping meaningful, community-informed interventions. I will also discuss our approach to building long-term partnerships with community agencies, digital health developers, and advisory boards. Attendees will gain insights into fostering authentic collaborations, balancing digital innovation with social connection, and ensuring that parent-driven insights translate into real-world impact. Considerations for implementation in diverse contexts, including adaptations for families of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, Indigenous families in Canada, and newcomer/immigrant groups, will also be explored. By prioritizing parent voices, BEAM offers a replicable model for designing inclusive, responsive mental health programs that bridge accessibility gaps and enhance family well-being. by @uopsych
