I had a really good time these past couple of months. As the first single from the newest era of Reality Club was released, ‘Quick! Love!’, I fill the sonic gap between this lovely band’s sound with something I’ve been drawn to over the past two years, a synthesizer. We’ve actually toured together for quite a while, so communicating musically is not too difficult.

I’ve always loved being in the music and art scene, and lately I’ve actively taken part in those processes as the sound doctor, and will always love being that guy. But being back on stage with this Club, I feel like I’ve been given space to express my feelings and emotions: through the instruments, the places, the ambience, and the style.

To explore the infinite possibilities of the synthesizer again and again, while working and exploring the earth, is such a really nice dream. And who would’ve thought this pretty lady I adore @aidaameera is on the ride too?

It feels amazingly surreal, but at the very same time, it feels familiar.

In the midst of riots, chaos, police oppressivity, and a government that really doesn’t give a damn about basic human rights, not to mention the degrading policies that most likely will make this nation drown, it reminds me of the state of mind when I was deep in my existential crisis. It feels like it’s happening again; everything feels pointless, deadlocked. There seems to be no hope at all for a better future. No light at the end of the tunnel. We’re frustratingly just marching to death.

In that period of my crisis, I remember that sometimes, when the mood was up high, when the dopamine kicked in, strangely I could feel a euphoric joy and serenity, being in peace in the midst of total turmoil. Strangely I could see everything from above as just fleeting moments. Everything seemed perfect with all the imperfections. Endless possibilities of life. So many things left undiscovered for you, along with the thirst for adventure. You were no longer lonely. An orgy of comfortable confidence. A dream of delight.

Although that feeling came at a very rare time, it felt like the most genuine. And it’s really hard to imagine right now, as there’s still a big darkness enshrouding this whole nation—actually this whole world. But let’s not stop hoping for justice, for equality, for humanity. Let’s be a dreamer. A dreamer of delight.

Strolling around Pejaten in early 2017, I wondered what this enigmatic place was. I visited Salihara Arts Center a couple of times to see some exhibitions or just chill in the café, still wondering what the place actually was, who worked there, everything seemed so quiet and intriguing inside a remarkably aesthetic building.

In 2022, I finally got to know the place thoroughly as a worker there, as a sound engineer. Not long after, there was this girl who caught my attention very badly.

I worked there for only a year, but everything seemed to happen there. I caught so much inspiration there from their shows and exhibitions, got to know the best people who have a really distinct view of the world, made friends and had a great time there. I studied a lot of things: art, music, philosophy, and the like, and finally discovered more about myself there.

And God only knows that I met my twin flame there, got to know each other there, spent a lot of time together there, and just a couple of weeks ago, got married there, and I was more than happy that the holy ceremony was witnessed by the man who owns the place, Goenawan Mohamad.
