Another freestyle that I’ve been thinking about on and off for a few yrs until I came across @nash.flyworks hand painted marabou. The last slide shows one of the first intruders that I tied that was really effective. The peach/pink transitioning into purple with white ostrich hooked a lot of fish in multiple days fishing in November. This is a more classic look on an AJ 1.5 that I think will work well this fall #flytying #tiedinhand #drylinesteelhead #speyfishing by @upstateonthefly

What a pleasure it was to have the guy that taught me how to fly fish in the front seat of his own boat today with Charlotte in the rear seat. One last trip to the west branch today before school starts by @upstateonthefly

I took the same ideas that I wrote about in @swingthefly book last year “Crafting The Swung Fly” and applied them to Charlotte’s fly from yesterday. She decided the first version is a little to special to fish so now we have a mixed wing version for a bit more movement #flytying #tiedinhand #drylinesteelhead by @upstateonthefly

I’ve been wanting to tie up my answer to the “Charlie muddler” as a wet fly. While teaching my fly tying class at @speynation I tied a muddler body with copper tinsel and silver ribbing and immediately had this idea. I wanted something fancy and full dressed. I had Charlotte draw up her ideal fly, containing elements of everything that she loves. She took inspiration from her beloved “Nancy Clancy” books that she reads daily to the rainbow that we saw last night. Tied on a 3/0 Code M to help keel with the materials, I can’t wait to swing “the Charlotte” in November #swingthefly #flytying #tiedinhand #drylinesteelhead by @upstateonthefly
