tall child is the alias for Zha Gandhi, a South East London based musician of Nigerian/Indian heritage paving the way for black artists in the indie music scene. tall child takes inspiration from the likes of Mitski, Radiohead, Rachel Chinouriri and Arlo Parks, to create a beautifully intimate and authentic basis for their soundscape. They build on this with a brutally honest style of lyricism, that explores their experiences as a queer disabled POC, to develop a sonic space especially for those who feel their differences being used against them.

Brighton-based artist REA creates alternative folk music in quiet outdoor spaces. Her debut EP Garden Shed, released in April 2025 and produced by Josh Harrison (Royal Blood, The Cure), is an experimental project rooted in nature, featuring tracks recorded in a secluded South Downs woodland. The project sparked a sold-out headline show in Brighton and two performances at The Great Escape Festival. With early support from BBC Introducing and a PRS-funded development programme with AudioActive, REA is currently collaborating with the London Philharmonic Orchestra on new music. by @upthewdnhill

🚨two weeks until Miler + REA + Winnipeg, MN at the Hope and Ruin - get your £5 ticket now through our bio🚨

opening for us on the night will be Winnipeg, MN; read a little more about them below, plus tune in to @boogalooradio on Sunday at 2pm to hear them chat with @itsreallytilly and play a couple of new recordings.

Winnipeg, MN is a six-piece band, originally formed in Brighton and now based in South London playing folk-inflected indie rock. We are AJ (bass), Catherine (violin), Jamie (guitar/vocals), Nathan (guitar/harmonium/vocals), Sam (clarinet/harmonium) and Will (drums).

The project was started by Jamie in Brighton in 2019 and has since grown into a larger group of friends playing music together. As a solo project Winnipeg, MN released an EP and two full length albums via Brighton’s Eyeless Records, and built momentum on the London and Brighton DIY gigging scene for a few years. The band expanded to fully realise the recorded music, as well as to allow for collaboration in songwriting. This expansion is rooted in a love of making music with friends, and as such fosters a DIY ethos and spirit in everything we do. The music we make is influenced by a range of artists from bands like Big Thief, Songs: Ohia and Modest Mouse, to composers such as Steve Reich, Claire Rousey and John Cage. This results in an eclectic but coherent output, tied together by a strong sense of rhythm and Jamie’s vocal melodies.

“Winnipeg, MN’s sound can only be described by saying it should be listened to alone with no outside distractions” - The Indie Scene

“Winnipeg gives an embodied performance that is full of reflection and emotion that stays with you long after their lilting vocals and spectral guitar lines finish.” - The Rose Prick

“Traces of Bright Eyes or Xiu Xiu are evident in the vulnerability Moore brings to his vocals, but it’s an arrestingly original twist on an already strange style” - Brighton Source by @upthewdnhill
