Nail Doctor is back! 🩺

Today’s little surgery: rebuilding a missing sidewall.

When part of the sidewall is missing, the goal isn’t just to fill the gap. It’s to rebuild the shape while making sure the repaired area has enough support.

For this repair, I used KOKOIST Fixee Gel, a fibre-reinforced gel designed for repairing cracks and missing corners.

A few things I always pay attention to:

✳︎ Keep the repair localised. Focus on the damaged area rather than adding unnecessary bulk to the whole nail.

✳︎ Don’t file away all the strength. It’s tempting to make everything super thin, but the repaired area still needs enough thickness for support.

✳︎ Check the sidewall from different angles. The goal is to restore a smooth, natural-looking shape that blends into the existing nail.

You don’t learn something once and suddenly remember everything 🥹

Our last Full Nail Career group of the year. It’s been a month since Stage 1, so we spent some time reviewing and refreshing the techniques, and troubleshooting the little things that came up along the way.

Making mistakes is just part of learning — that’s what class is for. We troubleshoot, practise and keep going.

Everyone did SO well these two days 🫶🏻 Can’t wait for our final day together next week!

When do I use KOKOIST Mega Stick Base? 👀

One example: very soft natural nails + a heavy-handed client.

This client naturally has super soft, flexible nails, but she also uses her hands a lot day to day.

In this case, using only Platinum Filler Base or Mega Stick Base on its own may not be enough for the combination of flexibility + daily impact.

So this is one of my favourite combinations:

KOKOIST Mega Stick Base → for enhanced adhesion
Kokoist Platinum Filler Base → for a stronger structured overlay

Mega Stick gives me that flexible, adhesive foundation, while Platinum Filler Base adds the strength and structure I need on top.

It’s not always about choosing one builder gel — sometimes it’s about understanding the natural nail + the client’s lifestyle, then building the right system around both. 💛

There’s something about Japanese pot gel that will always feel like art to me.

The control of every brush stroke, the perfect thinness, the softness and depth of colour — it’s a finish I’ve never quite found in bottle gel.

Mixing colours, adjusting opacity, controlling every tiny detail. 🤍
