At MAHT, chef Kevin Lee puts his own stamp on the modern American steakhouse in the Uptown 23rd space that once belonged to The Drake. Raised in a Korean household where steak and potatoes meant celebration, the James Beard Award nominee and Food Network fixture works with executive chef Josh Valentine to reimagine steakhouse staples: crab and scallion pancakes with uni ranch and soy caramel, sauces like perilla chimichurri and galbi peppercorn, and cocktails with chamoy, green plum and white kimchi water. The dark, moody dining room, with its gilded accents and tiger artwork, is a long way from The Drake’s pearly white look.

Open since late 2025, it’s still one of the hottest reservations in town.

Monday night my grandma and I went to go see a viewing of Grease at Tower Theatre. Grease was my mom’s absolute favorite film. She was OBSESSED with it and knew every song/line in the movie! I don’t even know how many times she had seen it since it came out in the 70s when she was a kid. She gave me my love for the movie due to her having me watch it at the age of 3. We would watch Grease all the time and sing the album in her car. I saw that the showing of the movie was going to happen at Tower Theatre, so I grabbed grandma and off we went. Of course I had to dress up for the movie. They had a costume contest during the event and I ended up winning, which was such a fun experience! To be honest I have not watched Grease since she passed, because it was so many memories with her. I won’t lie it was a very emotional experience and teared up a bit during the movie. Just so many memories came flooding back. The main ones were singing the songs in her car, me dressing up as Sandy for one Halloween, and lastly her teaching me how to do the hand jive dance. I definitely felt her presence with me during the movie and it was a great way to celebrate my mom.

(SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED)
Historic Uptown 23rd is getting a Route 66 gateway mural — and we’re looking for the artist or artist team to design it.

This mural will celebrate the district’s role in Route 66 history, welcome visitors to Uptown 23rd, and reflect the spirit of the Oklahoma Standard. The project is made possible through a grant from the Route 66 Centennial Commission, and comes with a $30K Art Award to bring the vision to life.

Visit uptown23rd.com/mural for full details and to submit your qualifications. RFQ open now through September 13th at 11:59pm.
