About last night… 🧡 What a night at the Midlands Food, Drink & Hospitality Awards. A huge thank you to Ifraz, Anita and the entire @mfdhawards team. Hospitality is one of the toughest industries out there and last night was a reminder of just how many incredible people work tirelessly behind the scenes every day. For me, it felt extra special. Not only was it a privilege to return as a judge and present awards, but this year my plus one was my daughter, Kiran. From September she’ll be taking on a bigger role within Urban Spice Box, so it felt fitting that she got to experience the passion, energy and community that makes this industry so special. One comment stayed with me all evening: “Behind every successful man is a successful woman.” As the wife of a chef, that one hit home. The sacrifices made by hospitality families often go unseen, and that’s why the work of @theburntchefproject is so important. The conversations were real. Times are tough. Costs are rising. Everyone is working harder than ever. Yet the one thing that stood out was gratitude. Grateful for the opportunities. Grateful for the journey. Grateful for the people we meet along the way. Congratulations to every finalist, nominee and winner. Earlier this week, I had the privilege of returning for my third year as a judge for the 9th @mfdhawards Firstly, a huge thank you to @beventspresents for once again giving me the opportunity to be part of the judging panel. Opportunities like this are never taken for granted, and every year I come away having learned something new. What stood out most wasn’t who had the biggest business, the biggest budget or the biggest following. It was the passion, resilience and commitment shown by so many businesses across our industry. Hospitality is tough right now, which makes it even more inspiring to see so many people continuing to innovate, invest in their teams, support their communities and deliver exceptional experiences for their customers. As someone who started with a simple gazebo setup, grew into a food truck and now operates both @urbanspicebox and our sister brand @urbansweetcollective @j9foodbarn alongside catering for weddings, corporate events and festivals across the Midlands, I understand first-hand the hard work, sacrifice and determination that goes into building something from the ground up. For some, awards are simply awards. For others, they represent years of consistency, perseverance and belief in what they do. One of the biggest things I took away from this year’s judging was just how much there is to learn from others within our industry. If I’m fortunate enough to be invited back in the future, I will continue to champion and nominate businesses that deserve recognition. Not because they’re the biggest, but because they’re making a difference through great hospitality, strong values and a genuine commitment to their customers, teams and communities. Hospitality is built on people, passion and purpose. And if there’s ever a Best Curry category, I’ll happily let Vick do the cooking while I do the judging. 🤣 Thank you to everyone who continues to raise standards across our industry.
