You knew someone was fancy in the late 80s and 90s when they’d have a pull out stereo and take them with you… In the mid 90s it turned into a “detachable face”. This is there the face of the car stereo would come off and easier to take with you or hide in the car. This way thieves didn’t know what kind of stereo it was as couldn’t see it…
