to the christian community i grew up in, because i know yall are stalking my page, and to all of those who i’ve had to deal with throughout my teenagehood, you know who you are.

fuck all of yall. ong.

the amount of hatred that you have for queer people and to use religion as an excuse for that hatred is disgusting.

how about using that same energy for the pedos and sexual assaulters within your community?

the amount of discrimination, bullying and trauma i had to deal with growing up not only because of my race but also because of my sexuality was diabolical.

i want to remind yall that the characters yall have does not reflect the god you speak of or worship at all.

judgement will come for yall asses.
and thats on everything that is spiritual.

overall yall are hypocrites.

to whoever is reading this.

to any black boy who so happens to come across this,

i want to reassure you that
even though its hard for us out here

your existence is sacred.

one of the many things that reflect the beauty of the universe is that of which you possess.

do not ever let the word of man or the authority of man- made religion tell you otherwise.

do not ever let the hatred and ignorance of others hinder your light. even if its by your own blood.

always remember that these are people who are afraid of themselves and judge those who are different from them, so they project they demons unto others.

i want to honor and dedicate this post to those before me.

i am a direct descendant of samana americans,

a cultural subgroup of african american garveyists (mostly from philly) who migrated to ayiti with the help of haitian general Jean-Pierre Boyer 🇭🇹 during the 1820s to escape slavery in the U.S and live freely on a peninsula of the island which is now known as samana. it was a pan-africanist vision for a unified free and black nation.

my ancestors settled in ayiti and created
their own music (bambula, rhythms rooted in new orleans )
their own food (such as journey/johnny cake inspired by southern food)
and kept their own language that is still spoken today (samana english, which is a variation of old southern english as well as new orleans creole!)

(fun fact: Frederick Douglas actually went to the island to speak to the samana american people, as shown in slide 17)

my ancestors perseverance is why I am here today.
even though our community is small,
our spirit lives on, and will continue to live on.
our resilience shows no bounds.
my existence is literal proof of that.

because of that same perseverance, I am proud to say that this year marks the 202nd anniversary of the African-American immigration to samana, and each year, we celebrate it through a samana american harvest festival called javi!

it also comes to show that we as a diaspora are all connected one way or another. we all have our own beautiful yet revolutionary stories and histories that we should continue the pass down generations to come through our music, art, and whatever other passion that we may have.

All of our histories are interconnected.
what keeps us connected is our african roots.
To be black is celebrate our history every single day.
