During a layover in Kansas City, I managed to squeeze in a trip to the TWA Museum over at Wheeler Field.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was incredibly impressed with the visit!

The Lockheed Electra in the first photo was owned by TWA from 1940 to 1945 and was reportedly flown by TWA co-founder Paul Richter and famed aviator Howard Hughes.

The museum also features cockpit trainers for the Boeing 707, MD-80, and L-1011, along with a Boeing 707/727 cabin trainer.

One of the eeriest artifacts at the museum is a piece of wreckage from TWA Flight 800, which exploded over the Atlantic Ocean near New York in 1996.

If you visit the museum, be sure to sign up for one of their free tours. It was absolutely worth it, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat! taken in TWA museum by @uretskyaviation
