Want to add a little international flair to your degree? Our Global Education Studies minor may be just what you're looking for! In our increasingly interconnected global world, educators encounter classrooms more diverse than ever before. This minor helps to globalize your degree with international experiences that set you apart.

URI students from all majors are welcome to participate or take courses in the minor. Whether you're pursing a career in education, governmental or non-governmental organizations, or international agencies, this minor will help expand your knowledge, skills, and understanding of specific comparative and international theories, concepts, and practices in education.

Participating in our faculty-led study abroad program to Germany next year (or Italy the following year) will bring you one step closer to adding the Global Education Studies minor to your degree program!

Last week, we hosted guests from BBS II Osterode, a vocational school in central Germany. In addition to visiting several campuses and organizations throughout the state, the guests spent a day on the URI campus. They met with College of Education early childhood education faculty to discuss ways to continue to grow the partnership between the two institutions.

Kinan Darwish, head of social pedagogy (early childhood education) at BBS, also provided a guest lecture in Professor Kelly Houle's class, EDC 421: Early Language and Literacy. His lecture addressed the intersection of multilingualism and early childhood education and how BBS approaches multilingual learners (MLL) in Germany.

BBS serves primarily immigrant and refugee students and provides them with an education that supports their integration into German society with employment opportunities. The guests from BBS were hosted by the Feinstein College of Education and the Office of Global and English Language Programs.

🌍 If you're interested in studying abroad with the College of Education next summer, the faculty-led program to Germany will include a visit to BBS. More information coming soon about EDC 441: Constructing (dis)Ability in the U.S. and Germany!

The Office of Global Initiatives is seeking a creative and reliable student worker to support our social media presence. This role focuses on creating engaging graphics, short-form videos, and written content that highlights international student life and study abroad at URI. The Global Social Media Assistant will help tell authentic student stories and showcase what it’s like to live, learn, and connect across cultures on campus.

This position is ideal for a student who enjoys content creation, visual storytelling, and sharing everyday moments that resonate with a global audience.
