33 people walked into Rookies Rise yesterday as brand-new powerlifters, but they walked out as part of a family. There was something so different about the feeling of this event that has definitely secured its place on my list of favorite meets thus far in my powerlifting journey. Our goal was never to put on the biggest, flashiest show with all the bells and whistles. We wanted to create something that felt like walking into a new family.......a community that cared, wanted you to succeed, and celebrated all the work it took just to get there. And yesterday, I think we did exactly that. So many different stories walked through those doors: some train alone and had only ever trained on a smith machine. (True story!) Some train with big teams. Some are kicking cancer’s butt. Some were checking powerlifting off their bucket list, while others have dreams of seeing just how far this sport can take them. And one reminded us that **81 years old still leaves plenty of life for lifting heavy things.** 💪 I watched complete strangers become friends. I watched experienced lifters, coaches, referees, spotters, loaders and volunteers pour into people they had never met. I even watched an old-school powerlifter leave with his love for the sport renewed and refreshed after years of being entrenched in the drama and politics of powerlifting. (**That one hit home for me!**) Yesterday was a beautiful reminder of what this sport is really about. It’s someone shaking before their first squat while an entire room cheers them on. It’s discovering you’re capable of more than you thought. It’s strangers becoming friends. **It’s community.** Yesterday, our powerlifting community gained **33 new members.** To every athlete who trusted us with your very first meet: I hope you felt supported. I hope you felt celebrated. I hope you left proud. Most of all, I hope you left knowing **YOU BELONG HERE.** Welcome to the powerlifting family, my new friends.
