Boba, culture, and Mandarin in action!

Last week, the USC Chinese Program brought Chinese beyond the classroom through a hands-on boba-making workshop for middle and high school students. From practicing “你好” (Nǐ hǎo) and “谢谢” (Xièxie) to making and tasting boba together, students experienced language learning through culture, conversation, and collaboration.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event possible!

Boba, language, and a whole lot of curiosity 🧋✨

The USC Chinese Program brought culture beyond the classroom through a hands-on boba-making experience with local middle school and high school students.

As we mixed, poured, and shared, every cup became an opportunity to explore Chinese culture, start a conversation, and connect across different backgrounds.

Same boba, different stories and one sweet afternoon of learning together. ❤️

Ever wondered what students do in the USC Chinese Program? 👀

In our Tea Culture Class, students got to see and smell different tea leaves, learn how tea is prepared, explore traditional teaware, and, of course, taste some tea together! 🍵✨

It was a fun way to experience the culture while practicing Chinese beyond the textbook. Come take a look at what our class was like! 📚
