Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Cherissia Williams, Dr. Williams’ identical twin sister, as a special guest for our Music Industry Studies Convocation! Cherissia shared insights into her journey balancing her career as an opera singer with her work in music licensing at ASCAP, reminding our students that we don’t have to limit ourselves to just one passion, one career, or one identity. Proud to share that our Music Industry Studies program has been named one of @billboard magazine’s Top Music Business Schools!

Billboard’s annual feature recognizes colleges and universities preparing the next generation of artists and music industry professionals, considering industry feedback, alumni success, program offerings, facilities, and experiential learning opportunities.

This is an especially meaningful milestone for a program launched just five years ago. We are grateful for our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and industry partners who continue creating new pathways for future music professionals.

Two festivals. Two weeks. Countless miles, unforgettable music, and real-world learning you simply can’t replicate in a classroom. This is Music Industry Studies in action. 🤘

Over the past two weeks, our students have been on-site at @louderthanlifefest and @andbeyondfestival, working alongside industry professionals and seeing firsthand what it takes to bring festivals of this scale to life.

From early call times and long days to solving problems in real time, they showed up ready to work—and represented the @uofsc/@gamecockmusic exceptionally well.

We were also joined in the field by Dean @tayloeharding. And because there apparently weren’t enough Gamecocks in one place already, we ran into a few more: @hootieofficial. 🐔🎸

These opportunities are possible because industry partners believe students belong where the work is happening: in the room, on the ground, and alongside the professionals shaping live music.

Thank you to @dannywimmerpresents—and especially @dannywimmer, @chamiefab, and @daysims01—for continuing to invest in our students, their education, and the next generation of the music industry.

Now, if someone could remind us what day it is, that would be great.

We are proud to celebrate MIS alumna Samantha Bennett on her appointment as Fan Experience Coordinator at @dannywimmerpresents!

As a contractor within DWP’s Guest Services department, part of Front of House Operations, Samantha plays a key role in creating memorable fan experiences—from coordinating and training volunteers and beautification teams to supporting the Fan Experience Manager, working with vendors, and helping lead DWP’s Waste Warriors activation with Clean Vibes.

We’re excited to see Samantha put the knowledge and skills she gained through our program into action and make her mark in the music industry. We can’t wait to see the impact she continues to make!
