Finally! Today we release our 2nd album État Coupable through @viernulvier.gent Records. We’re very happy to share this with you! It’s been a long but fulfilling road and we’re very proud that we managed to deepen our collaboration and friendship through this process and we hope you can hear that!

“This time around the trio approached their craft more organically, jamming relentlessly and working together to figure out an over-arching statement rather than present a loose collection of tracks. On their previous album, the songs had mostly materialized from ideas @kwintenmordijck and @stefirritant had already partially developed, since they had already worked together extensively. And after almost four years of experimentation, Use Knife has evolved: @saif.alqaissy ‘s contribution is now far more upfront, and the trio are able to reproduce the boundary-pushing live energy of their performances, adding more singing, more percussion, more woodwind and further elements from Iraq and the Middle East.”

Jour 2 de l'EFEST CAMP, le Samedi 31 Octobre : Use Knife débarquent à 20h30 sur le Mains stage pour une performance pleine d'énergie et de charme, célébrant le mélange des cultures et des passions !

Use Knife rassemble l’énergie d’un chanteur/percussionniste irakien (exilé d’un pays déchiré par la guerre) et les obsessions d’un duo de compositeurs belges pour les synthétiseurs analogiques et les saxophones. Au-delà d’une simple fusion, le trio parvient à une véritable alchimie. Cette musique est intense et prenante, mais elle est aussi un espace d’émotions et de réflexion profonde. Use Knife ne parle pas seulement du rapport entre l’Orient et l’Occident, elle en est le son : quand des grondements électro-industriels percutent une poésie et des rythmes irakiens.

تجمع فرقة «يوز نايف» بين الطاقة الأدائية لمغنٍّ وعازف إيقاعات عراقي، اضطر إلى مغادرة بلده الذي مزّقته الحروب، وبين الشغف الموسيقي لثنائي من المؤلفين البلجيكيين بآلات السِنثسيزر التناظرية (Analog Synthesizers) والسكسوفون. غير أن ما تقدّمه الفرقة يتجاوز مجرد المزج بين عناصر موسيقية مختلفة؛ إذ تنجح في خلق كيمياء فنية فريدة تنسج عالمًا صوتيًا متماسكًا ومبتكرًا.
موسيقاها مكثّفة وآسرة، لكنها في الوقت ذاته تفتح فضاءً رحبًا للتأمل والانفعال الإنساني العميق. ولا تكتفي «يوز نايف» بالتعبير عن العلاقة بين الشرق والغرب، بل تجسّدها في الصوت ذاته؛ حيث تتقاطع هدير الإيقاعات الإلكترونية الصناعية مع الشعر العراقي وإيقاعاته، لتولد تجربة موسيقية نابضة بالقوة والابتكار.

Yesterday, you could listen to the 42nd episode of ‘Feeding the Gentry’ on @radioalhara . This time with a guestmix by @rshabara

Part of what makes this journey with Use Knife so great is the human connections we make and the beautiful music we learn about:

- In April ‘24 @rabih__beaini remixed our song “To Feed the Gentry”;
- In Feb ‘25 at our show at “A Morphine Night” @het_bos in Antwerp, Rabih used these stems to do a live remix of this song and combined them with the great vocals from Rully Shabara’s track “Kunna”;
- In Jan ‘26, this alternative remix was released on the compilation cassette “Gaza Is The Moral Compass” by @beacon_sound

and that’s how we got in contact with Rully via Instagram (the only reason we’re still on here), so we asked him to do a guestmix for our monthly show at Radio alHara.

Rully’s mix put together some examples of contemporary interpretations of melodies and rhythms shaped by folk and devotional traditions, unmistakably Indonesian despite the traditional, melayu, or arabic influence.

This is beautiful!
