In kindergarten, I proposed to a girl in my class. When she said no, I cried in front of everyone.

By first grade, I’d recovered enough to start telling those same kids my dad was Goldberg.

In my mind, that made complete sense. He was larger than life to me. Looking back, it was probably an insult. My dad was way cooler than Goldberg, and wrestling’s fake anyway.

But that was the only way my little brain knew how to explain it. He was my hero.

This is the only photo I keep framed in my office. It sits on my desk, the first thing I see when I sit down. It reminds me how lucky I was to grow up with a dad who made life feel bigger.

No matter how old I get, part of me will always be that kid in first grade, proud to tell everyone who my dad is.

Technically, I’m driving. Emotionally, she owns the vehicle. A red merle Australian Shepherd, AKC registered, rides proudly in the front seat of a pickup truck during a nighttime drive. She is sitting upright in the driver’s lap area and leaning toward the passenger side window, looking out with focused, alert confidence like she is personally overseeing the entire trip. Her coat is a beautiful mix of copper, cream, white, and merle markings, with soft feathering around her neck and chest. On 12/29/23 I turned $5k of XRP into Entei. That XRP would be ~$11.2k today. I regret nothing. Actually, I regret everything except Entei. Entei, an AKC-registered red merle Australian Shepherd, sprawls on her side for a dramatic “dirt nap” on a sandy, pebble-strewn desert trail. She wears a tan hiking pack/harness with straps, a clip, and a blank Velcro patch panel, making her look ready for an expedition even though she’s clearly clocked out. Entei’s coat shows rich reddish-brown along her back with gray-and-black merle mottling toward her hindquarters; her face is speckled with a wide white blaze and a pink, freckled nose. Caught mid-yawn, her head is tipped back, mouth wide open with a curled pink tongue and visible teeth, giving a hilariously over-it expression.
