USF Health MD/PhD student Vincent Lok is exploring how the body’s immune system could offer new alternatives to conventional chemotherapy.

Through the partnership between @usfhealthmedicine and @moffittcancercenter, Lok is studying dendritic cell immunotherapy, an approach that trains the immune system to identify and attack cancer cells. His research aims to expand the therapy’s potential use across a broader range of cancers, including metastatic cancers that can no longer be surgically removed.

“I wanted to not only study promising treatments but also see how they affect patients, and the collaboration between USF Health and Moffitt offered exactly what I was looking for,” Lok said.

His work highlights how USF Health’s integrated MD/PhD training connects scientific discovery with the potential to improve patient care.

Congratulations to Team NeuTrode! 🧠 USF biomedical engineering graduates Bridget Clift, Cristina Ramirez Vargas and Addison Whitehead are the first USF team to advance to the National Inventors Hall of Fame’s Collegiate Inventors Competition.

What began as a senior capstone project became a dry EEG electrode designed to make brain monitoring more comfortable for patients while capturing reliable signals. The team developed NeuTrode through USF’s Department of Medical Engineering, a joint program of the College of Engineering and USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, with guidance from Nathan Schilaty, PhD.

Let’s show them our support! Vote for Team NeuTrode in the People’s Choice Award once a day through Oct. 14. Link in bio. by @usfhealth

For patients with lupus nephritis, navigating care can mean coordinating multiple specialists, appointments and treatment plans, making an already complex disease even more difficult to manage.

USF Health is changing that! Launched in 2025, the Comprehensive Lupus Nephritis Clinic brings rheumatology and nephrology together to provide same-day, multidisciplinary care, helping patients receive coordinated care, support early detection and move quickly from diagnosis to treatment.

The clinic is a joint effort between USF Health and Tampa General Hospital, bringing together expertise and resources to support patients throughout their care.

🔬 Specialized Expertise: Access to ENTs with expertise in complex voice, airway, and swallowing disorders.

👩‍⚕️ More Minds, More Perspectives: Multidisciplinary collaboration with GI, GI Surgeons, Pulmonologists, Rheumatologists, CT Surgeons, Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, and more allows for more holistic care and collaborative efforts.

✨ Advanced Treatments: Access to specialized equipment to do procedures and surgeries that may not be offered elsewhere.

🧪 Research Opportunities: Opportunities to participate in clinical studies and contribute to discoveries that shape the future of laryngology.

📚 Continuous Learning: Your physicians are also educators and researchers who stay engaged with the latest evidence while training the next generation of specialists.

USF Health CAMLS has brought simulation-based education to Tanzania. 🌍

Ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, faculty and simulation experts from the USF Health Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS) partnered with Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences to train Tanzanian faculty in simulation education, equipping them to train the next generation of emergency medicine providers and extend that knowledge across the region.
