For some USF students, studying abroad is more than an opportunity to travel. It can be a chance to experience a new culture, meet new people and gain independence outside of the classroom.

According to USF’s Global Learning Office’s website, the university offers study-abroad opportunities designed around different schedules, budgets and academic interests.

Students can choose from faculty-led programs, summer programs, semester exchanges, affiliate programs and international internships.

Summer programs can range from about two weeks to more than two months, while semester programs can last an entire semester or academic year, according to the website.

Students can explore USF approved affiliate study-abroad programs through the University’s Discovery tool. They can also pursue international internships, some of which offer the opportunity to earn academic credit depending on the program and university approval.

Nicholas Eisengrein, a USF alum who graduated in 2026 with a degree in business management, spent long days delivering food around Tampa for Uber Eats and DoorDash while studying at USF. Few of those orders, he noticed, went to college students.

The gap between USF students and local businesses became 9Yaps, a mobile app that connects students with discounts from local businesses. Eisengrein said the app now has more than 15,000 downloads and more than 100 business partners in the Tampa Bay area.

“I think I did about 2,000 deliveries in Tampa, and maybe a dozen of them were to students,” Eisengrein said. “Obviously there, that’s where the gap was.”

Users can browse participating businesses and available deals through the app, then visit a location and redeem a discount directly at the checkout. Rather than ordering through the app, users make their purchases in person and use 9Yaps to save money, Eisengrein said.

He said local businesses near USF wanted to reach students, but many struggled to get their attention.

After 33 players from last season’s South Florida football team entered the transfer portal, USF needed to find itself a brand new roster.

The Bulls saw a majority of their starting lineup — most notably quarterback Byrum Brown — leave for Auburn University with former coach Alex Golesh.

When head coach Brian Hartline took the USF job, there was speculation if any players from Ohio State University would also decide to join the Bulls.

C.J. Hicks and Bryson Rodgers contributed to the Buckeyes’ national championship win in 2025.

And six games through the season, both have been key contributors for South Florida this season.

<sponsored> An online tutoring platform called CramBetter has been the most-shared secret among USF’s sororities and fraternities recently. Available 24/7, the service distills USF’s toughest math and science classes down into bite-sized study guides, video lessons, and practice exams with the most popular test questions.

Math and science classes at University of South Florida are notoriously difficult, often requiring students to put in a lot of extra effort and study hours just to squeak by with a passing grade. Those with busy Greek Life schedules appreciate the efficiency of the service, citing its ability to cut their study time in half.

CramBetter offers USF tutoring for 18 chemistry, physics, and math classes, including: MAC1105, MAC1147, MAC2233, MAC2241, MAC2242, MAC2281, MAC2282, MAC2283, MAC2311, MAC2312, MAC2313, PHY2048, PHY2053, PHY2054, CHM2023, CHM2045, CHM2046, and CHM2210.

Students looking for an edge in their math and science courses can sign up for the 24-hour tutoring service directly on the CramBetter website.

Observed nationally from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, Hispanic Heritage Month highlights the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities, according to the National Museum of the American Latino.

At USF, student-led organizations have turned that mission into a reality, creating spaces for students to honor their heritage outside of the classroom.

A recent campus cultural showcase organized by the Mexican-American Student Association (MASA) brought those traditions to life through education, cuisine, and dance.

The event, “Touch of Mexico,” was held in the Marshall Student Center ballroom on Sept. 21 from 6:30 to 10:00 pm.

The USF Library completed renovations that added seating, new furniture and a police substation, and students say the updates made it a better place to study.

The USF Library finished renovating its third and fourth-floor study spaces in August, completing a project that also updated the first and second floors.

Each floor is a collaborative study space with its own volume level and environment, and the first floor also houses the library’s help and computer centers.

Zibby Wilder, associate director of communications and marketing for the University of South Florida Libraries, said each floor now has new and updated furniture, including added seating on the third and fourth floors.

Greek life has become almost synonymous with the American college experience. Movies like The House Bunny, Legally Blonde or even Neighbors have helped create a familiar image of college: fraternity houses, sorority recruitment, themed parties and philanthropy events.

For many students, that image is not entirely fictional. Joining a fraternity or sorority can mean finding a community and a sense of belonging.

But behind the parties and philanthropy events is another side of Greek culture that is hardest to romanticize: hazing, excessive drinking, sexual assault, drugging and the pressure to conform.

The problem is not whether Greek life can create meaningful experiences. It definitely can. The real issue is what happens when the culture surrounding those experiences makes harmful behavior seem normal — or makes students afraid to speak up when something goes wrong.

The University of South Florida is planning a new building for the Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing.

USF plans to put the building at the Tampa campus’s main entrance, where LeRoy Collins Boulevard meets USF Alumni Drive, according to the university.

The state has committed $35 million to the project, and private donors have contributed millions more, according to USF.

USF spokesperson Althea Johnson said the university has not set a construction start date or a groundbreaking date.

I was simply passing by USF’s Castor Beach on my way to my dorm when a turquoise bicycle hanging from a tree branch made me stop in my tracks.

I thought it would be a one-time occurrence, but this suddenly became a common sighting across campus.

Look, seeing bikes and scooters hanging from trees like giant Christmas ornaments is hilarious at first. But imagine actually being the person who owns them.

You walk out of a two-hour lecture, you’re tired, you’re late and suddenly your only ride home is dangling six feet in the air. If you’re on the shorter side or just having a bad day, it is definitely not just a funny prank.

My first honest suspicion was that it was Spiderman. Like many USF students, I questioned who the real person behind the bikes was.

Until eventually I came across the @usfbikeman account on Instagram, whose first post was uploaded on Sept. 11 and showcased several videos of bikes and scooters placed in trees which were numbered and labeled as “victims.”
