Today, we proudly congratulate Officer Anthony Morelli on successfully completing the University of South Florida Police Department’s Field Training Evaluation Program! 👏

This important milestone reflects Officer Morelli’s hard work, professionalism, dedication, and commitment to serving the USF community. After successfully meeting all program requirements, he is now ready to begin serving as a solo patrol officer.

Officer Morelli has been assigned to Patrol Nights B under the supervision of Sergeant Santiago, and we look forward to watching his continued growth and success in this new role.

A special thank you to our Field Training Officers and supervisors whose mentorship, patience, and leadership help prepare the next generation of USFPD officers. Their investment in our new officers plays a vital role in maintaining the high standards of professionalism and service our community expects.

🌧️ Heavy Rain = Hidden Dangers 🌧️

As heavy rain moves through our area, remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

🚫 Never drive through flooded roadways. It only takes:
💧 6 inches of water to stall many vehicles.
💧 12 inches of moving water to carry away a small car.
💧 18–24 inches of moving water to sweep away larger vehicles.

You can’t always tell how deep the water is or if the road underneath has been damaged or washed away.

If you encounter a flooded street:
✅ Turn around and find an alternate route.
✅ Slow down and increase your following distance during heavy rain.
✅ Watch for road closures and obey barricades.
✅ Never walk through floodwaters—they may be deeper or more dangerous than they appear.

Your destination can wait. Your safety can’t.

Stay weather aware, Bulls, and help keep yourself and others safe.

On a 100-degree day, the inside of a parked vehicle can reach deadly temperatures in just minutes. 🌡️

Help prevent a hot car tragedy by following these simple safety tips:
🟡 Always lock your vehicle—even when it’s parked at home.
🟡 Keep keys and key fobs out of children’s reach.
🟡 Teach children that vehicles are never a place to play.

If you ever see a child alone in a parked vehicle, call 911 immediately. Quick action can save a life.

**Happening Now!**

USFPD is proud to be participating in St. Pete’s **Justice Quest** Camp, where members of our department are giving campers an exciting, behind-the-scenes look at careers in law enforcement and public safety.

Our Criminal Analysts, **Tania Aouad** and **Samantha Lee**, are showcasing how criminal analysis and intelligence support investigations and help keep our communities safe. Campers are also enjoying the opportunity to meet our Therapy K-9 and EOD K-9 teams and learn about the specialized roles they play in protecting our community.

Sworn personnel, **Officer Hill**, **Officer Lickenfelt**, **Officer Rodriguez-Soto**, and **Sgt. Aristizabal**, are sharing their experiences in law enforcement, answering questions, and providing hands-on demonstrations that highlight the many facets of policing.

Thank you to our entire USFPD team for representing the department with professionalism and enthusiasm. Your dedication to community engagement and inspiring the next generation of public safety professionals is making a lasting impact.

Our outstanding team of USFPD Community Service Officers (CSOs) recently participated in specialized training led by Officer Brightwell of the USFPD Special Operations Bureau. This valuable training strengthens their skills, enhances operational readiness, and ensures they are prepared to support the department during a wide range of operations and critical incidents.

At USFPD, continuous training is a cornerstone of our commitment to safety. By investing in the development of our CSOs, we help ensure that our officers are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and capabilities needed to serve and protect the USF community.

Our newest hire definitely hit the ground running... well, maybe not running. 🐢😄

During CSO Shonk’s ongoing training, she responded to her first “traffic incident”—a turtle making an unplanned road crossing. She safely escorted the little traveler across the roadway and into a secure location.

We’re happy to report the turtle is safe, traffic is flowing again, and CSO Shonk has officially added “turtle crossing guard” to her growing list of skills.
