Silk, gold thread and a love story with Paris couture 🇫🇷 This week as a part of study tour program we visited Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the exhibition «La Mode en Majesté» stole the show. This is the wardrobe of Queen Sirikit of Thailand: shimmering ikat silks, gold embroidery and eight traditional costume formats she designed with historians and Thai creators. Add to that a creative dialogue with Pierre Balmain that lasted over 30 years, from their first meeting in 1959, and the legendary embroiderers of Maison Lesage. Original sketches, couture silhouettes, ancestral craft meeting Parisian glamour. Another interesting study tour in Paris. This time our second-year Master in Digital Fashion Communication students visited Palais Galliera to explore the exhibition “Weaving, Embroidering, Embellishing: The Crafts and Trades of Fashion”. Through a guided tour, we discovered the artistry and expertise behind fashion craftsmanship, gaining valuable insights into fashion heritage and the importance of preserving traditional techniques. An inspiring experience connecting fashion history, craftsmanship and contemporary creativity. 🌍 International Internship Stories Internship experiences abroad shared by USI students who received a SEMP grant - to inspire your own international journey. 📍 Marta Montorfano at LOEWE, Paris (FR) 🎓 Master in Digital Fashion Communication 💬”One of my main learnings from this experience was developing a better understanding of how digital media performance is analysed and translated into actionable insights. Working in a fast-paced international environment also improved my ability to communicate these insights clearly and work effectively with different stakeholders and teams. The biggest challenge was learning how to navigate a large amount of data and identify the insights that were actually meaningful for the business. What I will carry with me most from this experience is not only a stronger understanding of digital media and performance analysis, but also everything I learned from the team I worked with. Last Friday, our second year Digital Fashion Communication students stepped into one of the world’s most iconic cultural institutions: the Louvre. From masterpieces of art and decorative objects to centuries of visual culture, the visit offered us the opportunity to explore the connections between art, heritage, creativity and fashion. The Louvre is not only a source of inspiration for the fashion industry, but has also become a remarkable setting for fashion itself, with LVMH maisons such as Louis Vuitton presenting collections within its historic spaces. Clothing has always been more than what we wear. ✨ Our Master students visited Francesco e l’abito perfetto. I costumi di Fratello sole, sorella luna at Villa Ciani in Lugano. Created on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the death of Francis of Assisi, the exhibition explores his deep and complex relationship with clothing. Growing up in the world of luxury textiles, Francis developed a profound knowledge of fabrics and remarkable sartorial sensitivity and creativity, ultimately searching for the “perfect garment” to express the new way of life embraced by him and his friars. Through biographical accounts, artistic representations and the original costumes created by Danilo Donati for Franco Zeffirelli’s Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972), the exhibition brings together clothing, art, history and cinema.
