Alpine Pre-Race Potentiation 💥

What ⤵️
A low-volume, high-intent, short-duration workout designed to optimize race-day readiness and enhance performance.

Why ⤵️
The purpose is simple: athletes whose neuromuscular systems are primed present increased levels of force, power and speed in a subsequent competition environment. Mechanisms through which potentiation acutely improves neuromuscular performance are thought to be attributed by excitation of the neuromuscular system, upregulation of competition-day hormonal profiles, and psychological benefits.

How ⤵️
A small selection of lower-body, explosive movements paired with dynamic trunk exercises can be used to target the appropriate muscle groups and elicit the intended neuromuscular, psycho-physiological response before race day. Keep the volume low and take complete rest for maximal intent, high movement quality, and little to no onset of fatigue. From start to finish, the session should be 30-45 min in duration. (Example workout included in comments)

When ⤵️
Improvements in strength, power and speed are shown to take effect within a 6- to 32- hr window. So, the morning of a night race or the afternoon before race-day are ideal.

Where ⤵️
Gymnasiums, parking lots, hallways, or wherever you have the space. Minimal equipment is required which makes pre-race workouts easy to do anywhere!

Get after it and have fun! 🚀⚡️💥

A (on snow training) day in the life of U.S. boardercross team.

Get warm with a game to get things kicked off.

Then they work into some mobility work to go through full range of motion to get the joints greeced and muscles supple .

Followed by maximum effort isometrics and jumps to get the neural system firing at full throttle before getting on snow.

If they sit down for a prolonged period of time for a snack or a drink, they will do a little “re-warm & activation” which includes a similar combination of strength and power prep.

The boardercross team will usually lift in the evenings during training camps to maintain their output capacity. This involves doing highly intense strength and power at low volumes to minimize fatigue. by @usss_highperformance
