“AI is only as smart as the questions you ask it.”

That was one of Atharva Thorat’s biggest takeaways from his internship at UST, where he built a Claude AI skill designed to make creating Statements of Work (SOWs) faster.

Atharva used Claude to study existing documents, design how the tool should work, write code and improve it based on feedback.

He came to UST wanting to understand how AI is used inside a large company and how experienced teams approach problems. Along the way, he also stepped outside his comfort zone by presenting his work to colleagues, building confidence and learning to communicate his ideas more clearly.

“The biggest difference was my manager, Ian Costello. He gave me meaningful work and helped me meet and connect with new people.”

The biggest barrier to AI adoption is trust. Tim Sanders explains that as leaders, your dialogue is critical. If AI is framed as a threat, adoption will stall. If it’s framed as something that helps people achieve more and remove limitations, then they will lean in.

New situation? Limited information? Figure it out.

That’s how Amber Bernardi-Kim, Senior Growth Marketing Manager at UST, has approached life. From an off-the-grid childhood on a mountain in Washington to corporate boardrooms in Manila, there’s nothing she can’t do.

She has lived abroad in Europe and Asia, is fluent in multiple languages, and has traveled extensively, giving her life experiences that just can’t be taught in a classroom.

At UST, Amber is known as the person who fills the gaps, going above and beyond her job description to get things done. Her advice? “Make connections. Listen before you decide. Talk to the people doing the work, hear all the sides, take your notes — and don’t walk in thinking you already know how to do it better. Come in curious, not certain.”
