U.S.VETS joins the veteran community in mourning the passing of Ralph Cooper, a co-founder of the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV).

Ralph was a dedicated advocate whose leadership and commitment helped shape the national effort to end veteran homelessness.

A longtime friend and colleague of many of our own original leaders, Ralph shared our organization’s deep commitment to ensuring that those who served our country have the support and dignity they deserve.

We honor his legacy and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His impact on the veteran community will not be forgotten. by @usvetsnational

A new frontier for veterans in Arizona!

We were honored to come together last week with Ariz. Gov. Katie Hobbs, our partners Gorman & Company and the Department of Veterans Affairs, state and local officials and our many supporters to celebrate the opening of The Post at Fort Whipple, a new permanent supportive housing community on the Northern Arizona VA Campus in Prescott.

The Post provides 103 new homes—much-needed affordable housing for formerly homeless and at-risk senior veterans and their families. With access to VA healthcare, U.S.VETS support services and community programming, we’re proud to serve veterans in safe, stable homes with opportunities to thrive through healing and connection.

The community includes a four-story building with 80 apartments and 23 additional homes developed from the careful rehabilitation of historic officers’ quarters along Officers Row.

We’re grateful for everyone whose support helped make this new chapter possible for veterans.

The Spanish-tiled rooflines of Army veteran Jeff Whitley's new apartment building on the West LA VA campus reflect a distinct California architecture and frame the possibility of reinvention.

Whitley, a Virginia native, had moved to LA when he was 37 as a former second lieutenant with a college degree who was pursuing a career in a Hollywood art department.

Now, 23 years later, he's a graduate of U.S.VETS Inglewood's transitional housing program, where he gained stability and independence following years of uncertainty.

Landing in a permanent home once seemed improbable to Whitley, who never found a job in entertainment and experienced homelessness for 11 years. He worked a steady job in food service, kept a clean appearance and blended into everyday life.

He eventually moved into subsidized housing for about 10 years, but was evicted by a court order in 2024 following years of mounting financial troubles brought on by reduced mobility to work due to arthritis.

“At that point, I thought I'm too old to return to the street,” Whitley recalls. “I lacked either the courage or the stupidity to do that again.”

That’s when he learned about U.S.VETS Inglewood, and, “They said yes to me,” Whitley says.

“I'm very pleased with my new home and thankful,” he adds. “I never in my dreams imagined that I would have a nice apartment that I could call mine after a formal eviction.”

#suicideprevention happens every day in big and small ways. Sherlyn Johnson, director of behavioral health at U.S.VETS Inglewood, reflects on setbacks and leaning into tomorrow with some help from her colleagues.

We can be there when a veteran feels alone, be present during a difficult conversation, or make a connection on a hard day.

This work does not belong to September. Our #hopeinaction journey continues each day, in moments of connection, compassion and support.

“You shall conquer.”

These encouraging words from Navy veteran Jefferey Nunes of U.S.VETS Wai`anae shine a light on #hopeinaction and all the ways veterans find a path forward. His loyal lap dog, Poco “TT” Tiny Tina, is a reminder that healing, hope and connection can come in many forms.

Where do you turn for inspiration?

No one should have to find their way alone.

During #suicidepreventionmonth , we’re reminded that a network of support can make the difference for veterans between feeling stuck and rediscovering a path forward. U.S.VETS Las Vegas clinical therapist Michelle Taylor sees transformations firsthand.

Stability, purpose and connection can turn hope into action—and all of us can play a part in making a positive difference in a veteran’s life.

If you or a veteran you know is in crisis, help is available 24/7. Call or text 988, then press 1 to reach the Veterans Crisis Line.

It’s a kind word or a shared moment. A reminder that someone sees you.

For Navy veteran Joshua Ruiz of U.S.VETS Barber’s Point, acts of kindness open the door to connection—and when that happens, hope grows.

#suicidepreventionmonth reminds us that simple encounters every day can inspire hope.

Who helps you feel seen?
