The Wild Weather Shaking Up Utah 🌪️

Utah had a serious dose of weather drama when a severe, fast-moving storm system swept right along the Wasatch Front. It wasn’t just your typical afternoon rain, it triggered rare emergency alerts, sudden tornado warnings, and intense atmospheric action across northern counties.

- Funnel Cloud & Mountain Touchdown: Video clips captured a distinct funnel cloud dropping right along the mountain slopes near Fruit Heights, Layton, and east toward Bair Canyon. A separate funnel cloud was spotted in eastern Utah near Jensen.

- Tornado Warnings Issued: The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City issued urgent Tornado Warnings covering Davis, Weber, and Morgan counties, covering areas like Layton, Farmington, Kaysville, Fruit Heights, and Mountain Green.

- Severe Lightning & Massive Hail: Atmospheric instability kicked off intense cloud-to-ground lightning from Utah County (including Pleasant Grove) all the way up through Salt Lake and Davis counties. The cell dumped heavy hail ranging from ping-pong ball size up to golf ball size.

- Flash Flooding & Local Impacts: Torrential downpours hit I-15 and local roads with sudden flash flooding, while 60 mph wind gusts battered trees and roofs. Hail smashed windshields, and heavy rain caused ceiling damage in commercial buildings in Layton.

Fortunately, no major injuries were reported despite the dramatic wall of dark, rotating clouds. 🙌

POV: your hiking trail suddenly turns into this. 😳🧗‍♂️

This is the Dynomite Sky Bridge at Ashley Gorge Via Ferrata in Utah, where you literally walk across the canyon while clipped into a safety cable. And yes… the ground is VERY far down. 😂🏜️

The via ferrata combines steel rungs, cables, exposed rock and aerial bridges through Ashley Gorge. The best part? This isn’t some private resort attraction. It’s a public via ferrata near Vernal. 👀

When the Bonneville Salt Flats turn into a giant mirror ✨🌊

For a few weeks after the rain, this otherworldly place can transform into one of the most unreal landscapes in Utah. Salt, sky, mountains… and a perfect reflection that makes you feel like you’re walking on the clouds. 🤯

How high would you go to get married? 🤯💍

Kimberly Weglin and Ryan Jenks took “going all in” to a whole new level. These professional slackliners said “I do” on a giant Spacenet suspended 400 feet above a canyon near Moab, Utah. And no, they didn’t just walk down the aisle… they crossed highlines to get there. 😳🏜️

As if that wasn’t wild enough, friends performed aerial acrobatics, paragliders flew overhead, and BASE jumpers released thousands of flower petals from the sky. Talk about making an entrance!

Honestly, Moab was already a pretty incredible place to get married, but these two turned it into something straight out of a movie. Would you dare to do this? 😂

If you’re waiting for the perfect time to visit Utah… this is it. 🍂🔥

For a few weeks every year, the mountains completely change. The aspens turn gold, the maples bring out deep reds and oranges, and @kynoelanderson captures that moment when a normal drive through the canyon suddenly feels like you’ve entered another world. 🏔️🍁

And that’s the best part about fall in Utah. You don’t need a complicated itinerary. Grab a coffee, get in the car, pick a canyon and just go. Big Cottonwood, Provo Canyon, Logan Canyon, Guardsman Pass and Mirror Lake Highway are just a few places where the colors can be absolutely insane this time of year.

But don’t wait too long… blink and the mountains are green again. 👀🍂

Utah really hid a hot spring at the end of a hike and expected us not to tell anyone. 😂♨️

Fifth Water Hot Springs, also known as Diamond Fork Hot Springs, is tucked into the mountains near Spanish Fork, and getting there means following a trail through the canyon before the pools finally appear. Then you see the turquoise water, the steam rising through the trees, and realize the hike was basically just the entrance fee.

@davie8thebaby caught the place on one of those days when Utah looks almost unfairly good. The contrast between the warm pools, rocky canyon and surrounding forest makes this spot feel completely different depending on the season. 🌲💦

There are several pools along the creek, with temperatures varying from pool to pool, so you can find your own spot to sit and take in the scenery. Just remember this is a natural hot spring, not a resort, so conditions can change and it’s important to follow current trail and land-management rules.

Utah is not boring! 💦

Lake Powell is one of those places where you can show up with absolutely no plans and somehow end up having the best weekend. Cruise through the canyons on a boat, rent a houseboat, kayak into the narrow side canyons, go swimming, fish, hike, camp right along the shoreline or just find a quiet beach and spend the day doing nothing. 🛶🌊🔥

And then there’s the scenery. The water winds through miles of towering sandstone cliffs, creating those crazy blue and orange views that make it feel like you’re somewhere outside the planet. 😳

Honestly, Lake Powell is less of a “go see this one viewpoint” kind of place and more of a get out on the water and explore kind of adventure.

The reds are showing up in Utah, and you know what that means… 🍁🔥

@utah_matt caught that moment when Utah’s mountains start trading their summer greens for those deep red, orange and golden colors we wait all year for. And honestly, this is when the drives through the mountains start feeling completely different. 🏔️🍂

The colors usually begin appearing at higher elevations around mid September, with many areas reaching their peak into early October. So if you’ve been waiting for that perfect fall road trip… this is your sign. 👀🍁

This photographer spent months chasing the right moment to capture highline artist Andy Lewis walking across a line stretched between two desert towers near Moab, Utah.

And the result from @renan_ozturk is pretty unreal. One person, a tiny line in the middle of this massive desert landscape, and nothing but open air underneath. It almost looks like Andy is floating between the sandstone towers. 🤯

This is the kind of shot that makes you realize how much planning, patience and courage can go into a single photograph.
