🦌 On the Hunt for Fire Sense! 🔥

As you head out for hunting season, add wildfire prevention to your checklist!

🎯 Aim for a safe season!

Park vehicles away from dry grass and brush.

Avoid dragging chains or equipment that could create sparks.

Check for fire restrictions before heading out. https://utah-fire-info-utahdnr.hub.arcgis.com/pages/active-fire-restrictions

Never leave a campfire unattended, and make sure it’s completely out and cold to the touch before leaving.

Pack out what you pack in.

This season, make fire prevention part of your hunt. A little #FireSense goes a long way in protecting Utah’s wildlife, public lands and communities.

🔥 TERRA TORCH: Firefighters used a UTV-mounted Terra Torch to ignite about 100 acres during initial operations on the Red Ryder Prescribed Burn in Northern Utah. Recent rainfall helped crews safely burn hazardous fuels and strengthen containment lines, reducing wildfire risk to communities east of the project area.

🚁 HELITORCH 🔥

Fire crews successfully completed about 5,000 acres of planned burning near Moroni Peak this week on the Fishlake National Forest in Central Utah. Crews will continue monitoring the area, with smoke and fire activity expected to decrease as moisture moves in.
Next, crews plan to begin a roughly 1,300-acre prescribed burn near Jolly Mill, east of Acord Lakes. Ignitions could continue through Saturday, with smoke visible around Acord Lakes.
These projects reduce hazardous fuels, support healthier forests and wildlife habitat, and help protect nearby communities from catastrophic wildfire.

🔥 Good fire, good progress!

We know—it may seem strange that we spend all summer telling you to be careful with fire, then turn around and intentionally put fire on the ground.

So, what’s the difference?

Prescribed fire is planned. Wildfire is not.

Before a prescribed fire begins, fire and fuels crews carefully consider weather, fuels, moisture and conditions on the ground. Crews prepare the area, establish control lines and have firefighters and resources on scene to monitor and manage the fire.

It takes a lot of planning and preparation—and even then, fire doesn’t always behave exactly as expected. But carefully planned fire can help us reduce hazardous fuels before a wildfire does it for us.

The @FishlakeNF and @UtahFFSL are working together on the #MoroniPeakRx project east of Salina and south of I-70 in Sevier County.

Crews are making great progress, safely treating acres to reduce hazardous fuels, improve forest health and create a more resilient landscape.

🔥 Sometimes, good fire is part of the solution.

🔥 Prescribed fire in action!

The @FishlakeNF and @UtahFFSL are working together on the Moroni Peak Project, east of Salina and south of I-70 in Sevier County.

Yesterday, crews successfully burned 500 acres using hand ignition and drones to carefully treat smaller areas beneath ponderosa pine.

This work:
🌲 Reduces hazardous fuels
🏘️ Helps protect nearby communities
🦌 Improves wildlife habitat
💧 Supports healthy watersheds
🔥 Builds a more resilient landscape

Next, crews will shift their focus to slash pile burning using a helitorch.

🍂 Fall has arrived in Utah!

The leaves are changing, there’s a crispness in the air, and recent moisture has helped decrease fire activity across the state. But wildfire risk doesn’t disappear with the changing seasons.

🔥 Conditions can change quickly. Before heading outdoors, check current fire restrictions and always use your #FireSense.
