Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring personal storytelling through an improviser’s brain: • Finding stories hiding inside lived experience • Emotional specificity, stakes, and point of view • Structuring a personal story without making it feel scripted • Bringing improvisational presence, discovery, listening, and spontaneity into solo storytelling ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Corey Rosen is a writer, actor, visual effects producer, and storytelling teacher based in San Francisco. He is the author of Your Story, Well Told: Creative Strategies to Develop and Perform Stories That Wow an Audience and the forthcoming A Story for Everything: Mastering Diverse Storytelling for Any Occasion. Corey got his start writing for Comedy Central and Jim Henson Productions and later worked as a staff writer for Lucasfilm Animation and Tippett Studio. He has been featured on The Moth Radio Hour, hosts The Moth StorySlams and GrandSlams, and won the first-ever Bay Area StorySlam in 2012. He is also a company performer at BATS Improv, one of the world’s foremost centers for improvisational theater, and a regular contributor and on-air personality for Alice Radio’s The Sarah and Vinnie Show. MASTERCLASS IMPROV WORKSHOP WITH DAVE SINKER (The Second City • The Comedy Shrine) Join us at the Uptown for a special three-hour improv masterclass with Dave Sinker, a Second City alum, Emmy Award-winning comedy writer, and veteran improv performer and teacher. Dave Sinker's improv workshop is geared for performers with improv experience. The workshop will focus on: • Developing Characters • The Art of Give and Take through Listening • Knowing when to give and when to take, when to follow and when to lead • Undoing Bad Habits on Stage • Finding the Funny • How to be a Better Ensemble Member • Lessons on how not to piss off your director and fellow castmates • Audition Tips • Finding your Voice/Type • And much more! Sunday, September 20 12–3 PM Uptown Theatre for Creative Arts $40 per person ABOUT DAVE Dave Sinker was cast as a member of The Second City Theater in 1987 and performed improv and sketch comedy in 32 states with The Second City National Touring Company. He also wrote and performed with The Second City Business Theater and was an understudy performer in two Second City Mainstage productions. Dave spent 17 years as the owner, Artistic Director, and performer at The Comedy Shrine Theater and has performed in more than 4,000 improv comedy shows. He has taught improv acting workshops for adults and children for over 40 years. As a comedy writer, Dave has written for five national television shows and won a Chicago/Midwest Emmy Award in 1995 for MSI Science Zone. He has also written four children's films, each of which won a Parent's Choice Award. And this is a homecoming: Dave previously performed at the Uptown Theatre with The Second City in his hometown of Utica! Space is limited.
