Maybe you’re both? We love environmental activism and we’re all for it, as far as an avenue whereby the world can be positively impacted. But don’t confuse environmental activism with environmental science. We train scientists! And that should be your focus, if you’re a UTC ESC major … #showmethedata by @utchattanoogaesc

Nothing is impact free. The key is to manage and minimize that impact as much as possible. I am reminded of a certain situation where solar panels were installed in a certain area. People celebrated. The newspapers wrote it up. This is so awesome. Look at this great thing we’ve done for the environment! But then I had a completely different take. I used to go to the small wet area that these solar panels were built upon and watch the deer drink at the crack of dawn. I would watch the Sandhill cranes fly over and stop at this mini-wetland to rest and recharge. Those solar panels put an end to all of that. And other than me and one or two others, the vast majority of people had no idea. But that didn’t stop them from celebrating our environmental ‘progress.’ Meanwhile, my deer (I’ll call them mine) were literally starving for water during a fierce summer drought. Nothing we do is impact free. Nothing. @teamsalamander by @utchattanoogaesc
