This Orange Shirt Day, we honour the children who attended residential schools, remember those who never made it home, and reflect on the importance of truth, healing, and reconciliation.

Additional Opportunities and Resources Beyond UTM:

Woodland Cultural Centre:

Located in Brantford, Ontario, the Woodland Cultural Centre is an important resource for learning about the histories, cultures, languages and contemporary experiences of Indigenous Peoples. The Centre is also home to the former Mohawk Institute Residential School. We encourage community members to explore Woodland Cultural Centre's exhibitions, educational programming and resources — not only around September 30, but throughout the year.

Stolen Childhoods – Royal Ontario Museum:

Currently on view at the Royal Ontario Museum, Stolen Childhoods shares the lived experiences of children who were forced to attend the Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School in Brantford. Developed by the Survivors' Secretariat, the exhibition centres Survivor Truths and community knowledge through archival records, photographs, multimedia interviews and other materials. Stolen Childhoods is on view until October 5, 2026.

Upcoming Indigenous Learning Series at UTM:

Our commitment to learning continues beyond September 30. UTM OII and UTM EDIO will once again offer the Indigenous Learning Series, providing opportunities for students and employees to deepen their understanding and continue their learning.

Looking for your people at UTM?

There are 300+ student groups on campus, and there's more than one way to find yours. Start with the Student Organization Portal and filter by UTM to browse every club in one place. Prefer to meet people in person? Club fairs run each semester, so you can talk to groups face to face before you commit. And if the club you want doesn't exist yet, you can start it yourself.

Your community is waiting!
