Join us Tuesday (9/15) and Thursday (9/17) for our Breckenridge Distinguished Lecture Series! Dr. Yunte Huang will be leading his lectures “The Asian American Story and Art of Chinese Biographical Writing” and “Serve the People, Read Them Verse: A Transpacific Journey in Poetics and Politics”.

Yunte Huang is a Distinguished Professor of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is the author of Transpacific Displacement (U of California Press, 2002), Transpacific Imaginations (Harvard UP, 2008), and Chinese Whispers (U of Chicago Press, 2022). Each installment of his trilogy of creative nonfiction, Charlie Chan (2010), Inseparable (2018), and Daughter of the Dragon (2023), was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and named one of the Best Books of the Year by the New York Times. A recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, Society for the Humanities Fellowship, and the Edgar Award, he has published articles in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, PMLA, and others, and has been featured on NPR, CBS, BBC, C-SPAN, and others. He is also the translator into Chinese of Ezra Pound’s The Cantos, and the translator into English of Che Qianzi’s No Poetry, as well as the editor of The Big Red Book of Modern Chinese Literature (Norton, 2016).

This is a great opportunity to gain insight into the creative nonfiction sphere and learn about craft through the lens of Asian-American culture. We hope to see you there! by @utsa_creative_writing_program
