Join us for the opening of the 2026 Debbie McMahon Fiber Symposium on October 24th from 1 - 4 PM with Artist Talks Starting at 2 PM inside the Russell Hill Rogers Galleries and Lecture Hall!

This year’s Symposium: Inhabiting Place welcomes artists Anna Evans, Coulter Fussell, and Julia Gabriel Weber, whose contemporary & non-traditional quilt making focuses on the landscapes and regions the artists inhabit with elements including natural dyes from the Utah desert, imagery from the vast and textured sites of West Texas and crowd-sourced materials from rural Mississippi.

This workshop is part of the symposium and is being taught by Anna Evans who is one of the invited artists exhibiting and speaking.

2192 | Functional Applique & Hand Quilting with Anna Evans

Sat & Sun, Oct 24 & 25 | 9:00am – 11:00am

This workshop will teach the fundamentals of traditional appliqué for use in functional contemporary designs and finishing an appliqued top into a quilt. Each student will create a small appliqué sampler using naturally dyed fabrics. Several applique techniques will be taught so students learn how to apply different kinds of shapes. In the second session appliqué samplers will be made into mini art quilts using hand-quilting and facing edge finishing. All skill levels welcome, guidance will be shared aurally, demonstrated, and handouts with all techniques will be provided to suit different learning types. All skill levels welcome.

Anna Evans’s multidisciplinary work centers around conceptual interpretation of desert ecology and culture in the Western United States. She weaves together metaphysical symbolism, traditional quilt patterns, and Western iconography with a palette of docile desert tones to depict the place she inhabits and is most influenced by.

Congratulations to our newest Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt cohort! 🎉

Last Friday marked the second and final day of their two-day class. It was a pleasure to see this group build a foundation in Lean Six Sigma, share ideas, and explore ways to improve processes in their own workplaces.

Many of our participants joined us from Smurfit Westrock. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with companies that invest in their employees’ growth and give them the time to develop new skills.

To everyone who completed the class: congratulations! We enjoyed learning with you and can’t wait to see how you put your new skills to work. Birds up!🤘

Through UT San Antonio Professional and Continuing Education’s partnership with ArcLight Academy, you’ll build skills in patient care and emergency response through classroom learning and hands-on practice.

Life’s ‘Third Act’ deserves movement, connection, and a little time for yourself.

Third Act Chair Yoga: Moving Into What Matters is a new class designed especially with seniors in mind. Led by Natalie Buster, this welcoming class uses gentle movement, stretching, breathwork, and relaxation to help build flexibility, strength, and balance while supporting overall well-being.

No previous yoga experience is needed, and all abilities are welcome. Come as you are and enjoy a supportive space to move, recharge, and connect with others.

What a way to kick off TSI! 🎨✨

Our first week was a huge success, with packed Middle School and Saturday Teen classes and an amazing group of young artists bringing plenty of creativity, energy, and talent to the studio!

We loved seeing our students jump in, try new things, and make the most of a very busy few days. We have a feeling it’s going to be a pretty great year! 🧡

And a special shoutout to our Young Artist Programs Manager, Kim Bishop, for stepping in as our model! 👏🎨

Join artist Melanie Cortinas for Living Calaveras, a hands-on workshop exploring the techniques and cultural meaning behind this vibrant art form. Participants will learn step-by-step techniques for creating bold outlines, balanced designs, and colorful details while developing a calavera look that is uniquely their own.

Along the way, discover the meaning behind calaveras and how art plays a role in celebrating life, honoring memory, and remembering loved ones during Día de los Muertos.

What a great way to spend a Saturday morning! 🎨

Yesterday, we welcomed families to the UT San Antonio Southwest Campus for our first Saturday Morning Discovery session of the fall. Thank you to everyone who joined us to create, explore, and make art together!

Saturday Morning Discovery is a FREE family art program for young artists ages 5–14 and their parents or guardians. Families get to work side-by-side with local teaching artists while exploring different art forms and creative techniques.

Missed this one? There are more opportunities to discover something new this fall!

🍂 Registration is currently open for our next session, beginning October 3!

In an emergency, there’s no substitute for hands-on experience.

Through our partnership with ArcLight Academy, UT San Antonio PaCE EMT students go beyond the classroom to practice the skills they’ll need in the field. Through skills labs, simulated emergency scenarios, clinical rotations and field ride-alongs, students have opportunities to apply what they learn in realistic settings and build confidence through experience.

Because becoming an EMT isn’t just about knowing what to do. It’s about being prepared to act when it matters most.
