Eva Maria Ghannam is a much loved member of Sumud Ensemble, a classically trained singer and musician, and a member of the board of Sumud Ensemble Charitable Trust.

Born and raised in Lebanon, Eva was a mezzo-soprano with the Antonine University Choir and has performed widely, including singing the Lebanese national anthem at international sporting events. Since moving to Aotearoa, she has continued to share Lebanese and Palestinian folk and traditional music, alongside her work as a birth doula.

Eva joined the 2024 iteration of Asra as singer and Musical Director, performed at our first Festival of Sumud, and was part of the Tales of a City by the Sea readings at Auckland Town Hall before returning for the fully realised production at Te Pou Theatre in 2025. We are so lucky to have worked with @crescendomusicnz to immortalise Eva’s voice to take with us on tour next year!

Eva’s musical practice carries the deep connections between Lebanon, Palestine and the wider Arab world. She sings songs of love, longing, land, resistance and hope. As Eva says, there is always “that little spark of hope” that keeps driving us. ❤️

We’re so grateful for everything Eva brings to Sumud Ensemble her extraordinary voice, her generosity, and her commitment to keeping these songs and stories alive.

Don’t miss the show!
Tickets in bio ❤️🎵🇵🇸
