Six years after co-founding @get_joni, Jayesh Vekariya, MBA ’19, is passing forward the support he received along the way.

“Success goes beyond education,” says Jayesh. “It was truly the whole UVic environment that played a significant role in supporting me. Gustavson gave me the framework to succeed. The people behind the Innovation Centre helped me day and night and encouraged me to keep going when I was doubtful.”

Earlier this year, Jayesh brought that support full circle with a $6,000 donation to Gustavson and another $6,000 to @uvicinnovation_ to support future student entrepreneurs.

Giving back has been part of joni’s model from the beginning. The company has helped fund more than one million donated period products.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you are starting out,” says Jayesh. “You’ll be surprised at how many people are willing to help you.” by @uvicinnovation_

What a night! 🚀
A huge thank you to the 20 incredible companies who shared what they’re building at the @UVic Startup Showcase, and to everyone who came out to explore, test, ask questions, and support our founders.
We’re so proud of the innovation happening at UVic and grateful to everyone who helped make the evening such a success!
And a big thank you to @viatec for organizing #VictoriaTechWeek! We were so proud to be part of a week celebrating the amazing tech and innovation community here in Victoria. 💙 by @uvicinnovation_

Codechella, Aug 22. In the books!!!!

A full day of building ended with a room full of demos, fintech tools, AI agents, games, social apps, and everything in between, all shipped in a single day.

Huge thanks to everyone who showed up to build, present, and cheer each other on. This is exactly the kind of energy UVEC wants to keep bringing to Victoria.

More recaps coming soon. 👀

We’re live at Codechella. 🎥

Doors open, the venue’s filling up, and the energy is already unreal.

9+ sponsors. A full day of building. And yes, the food’s good too. 🍕

More from inside all day. 👀

This summer, we had the opportunity to welcome Juan José Orrego back to University of Victoria as an alumni and donor.

Juan’s journey is a great example of why customer discovery is essential. From the start, he spoke directly with potential customers and focused on understanding their real pain points. These insights helped shape his venture and move it forward.

Six years later, Juan is giving back through the Orrego Award, supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs, particularly newcomers to Canada.

Thank you, Juan, for your generosity, leadership and continued commitment to the UVic entrepreneurial community. We are proud to have been part of your journey.

Douglas Magazine Victoria recently featured Chimera Vision, founded by Sujith Mathew, one of the entrepreneurs we support.
Based at the BioInnovation Hub, Chimera Vision is using drone technology to give farmers real-time insights into crop health, helping small farms detect disease earlier and reduce losses.
