✨ The lasting legacy of the Sustainable Innovation MBA is the impact our graduates are making in the business world. We're spotlighting Ben Tacka '15, a member of the inaugural SI-MBA class. Ben joined the program with a goal of building a career that helps businesses align with the planet's limits rather than push beyond them. Through SI-MBA, he found a community of peers and mentors who shared the belief that business can be a powerful force for positive change. Today, as Commercial Development Lead for Prism at Phaidra, Ben helps deploy AI-powered technology that reduces energy consumption in mission-critical cooling systems, creating benefits for both businesses and the environment. "I am truly grateful to SI-MBA for giving me the tools to do my small part in helping business make the world better." We're proud to see alumni like Ben applying business, innovation, and sustainability to solve real-world challenges. ➡️ Ready to use business as a force for good? These recent Sustainable Innovation MBA (SI-MBA) graduates represent what is possible when business impact and societal impact come together. We're excited to see the Grossman School of Business at UVM included in a recent national conversation about the future of business education in The New York Times, which highlighted the SI-MBA as an innovative approach to preparing leaders for today's business environment. The program's success reflects the contributions of an entire community, including students, alumni, faculty, staff, members of our Board of Advisors, and University of Vermont leadership. Together, they have helped shape a program that aligns with AACSB's emphasis on societal impact and the University of Vermont's Our Common Ground values. How does a Vermont agricultural business stay true to its sustainability mission while navigating a constantly changing regulatory landscape?   That’s one of the questions students explored during a recent Sustainable Innovation MBA (SI-MBA) visit to Sunset Lake CBD in South Hero, Vermont.   Founded in 2019 by Sam Bellavance, recipient of the 2025 VBSR Young Changemaker Award, and supported by Cy Kupersmith, SI-MBA ‘19, who leads Sales & Sustainability, Sunset Lake CBD crafts farm-to-table CBD products that are sun-grown, pesticide-free, and harvested on its Vermont farm.   Students toured the farm, manufacturing facility, retail operation, and e-commerce business while learning how the company balances environmental stewardship, employee well-being, and business growth. Along the way, they explored how agricultural practices preserve soil health, how sun-grown cultivation reduces electricity use, and how the company has adapted and thrived in a dynamic market.   💬 “What struck me most about visiting Sunset Lake Farms was how connected they are to the bigger picture of Vermont agriculture. Their success comes not only from adapting to an industry constantly affected by changing policies and regulations, but also from staying true to sustainability as the cornerstone of their mission.” — Brooke Taylor, SI-MBA Class of 2027   Thank you to Cy Kupersmith, Sam Bellavance, and the entire Sunset Lake CBD team for sharing their story and insights with our students. Thank you to John Kim and Emily Battistoni for supporting this experiential learning opportunity. #SustainableInnovationMBA #ExperientialLearning #Sustainability #GrossmanSchoolofBusiness @uvmgrossman @sunsetlakefarms @vtbsr @vtagriculture @universityofvermont by @uvm_si_mba
