EXHIBITION! Swing through the SARUP Gallery to check out the current exhibition: Politics of Ordinary Spaces!
.
Politics of Ordinary Spaces implicates the political dimensions of the often-ignored, ordinary spaces of nation, economy, and body that make up much of the contemporary world. The exhibition, curated by Lindsey Krug (@lindseyok) and Adrienne Economos-Miller (@a.economos.miller), brings together three artists—Jonas Becker (jonasntbecker), Melissa Dorn (@melissadornstudio), and Pablo Lazala Ruiz (@pablolazalaruiz)—who are interpreting and revealing the content of these spaces hidden by convention and habit.
.
The exhibition will be open through January 3rd 2027!

Recent UWM graduates Anika Gingle and Aime Rabadan built a 3D model of downtown Milwaukee that brings to life the impact of @uwm_sarup on the city’s built environment. The model includes nearly 400 buildings and highlights buildings designed by people with UWM connections. “Seeing how UWM alumni have impacted Milwaukee’s downtown is really inspiring and motivating,” Rabadan said. SUPERjury NOMINEE! Jennie Crandall’s (@crandall_jennie_sarup) Body of Work from ARCH 600–800 Elective Studio w/ Assistant Professor Adrienne Economos-Miller (@a.economos.miller).
.
The box is a highly interactive object inspired by marionettes, a theme which came out of the film “Daisies” and is present throughout the rest of the project. The main control handle moves the women in the photos, telling them how to act. They move through the structure on the side of the box as a passing memory, alongside other found objects which fill this body. At the bottom is a house, changed by the artists that have resided inside.

COLLABORATIVE WORKSHOP! Architecture In-Between: Neighbors in the City w/ A+A+A (@aplusaplusa). Arianna Deane and Ashely Kuo (@ashelykuo) of A+A+A joined ARCH 311: Design V Studio—coordinated by Assistant Professor Aaron Tobey (@at4architecture) Tuesday, September 15th for a Collaborative Drawing Workshop and Public Lecture!

Photos by Afreen Fazdane (@afreenfazdane_sarup ).
.
In addition to giving a lecture about their work, A+A+A lead a collaborative drawing workshop that explored ideas of neighborhood dynamics, public space, and stakeholder needs. Students worked together on a continuous drawing across a long table—representing a neighborhood—to navigate program, form, and edge conditions collaboratively.

Throughout the session, A+A+A introduced scenario-based prompts that required students to respond to changing conditions, such as infrastructure needs, community events, or conflicts between neighboring sites. Participants worked with those around them to solve problems, connect projects, and adapt their designs as the neighborhood evolves. The workshop encouraged students to think beyond individual designs and consider how architecture can be shaped by adjacent sites, public space considerations, city infrastructure, and local governance. By the end, the class created a collective drawing that reflected the interconnected nature of designing within a neighborhood.
.
A+A+A is a New York based design studio working across North America and Asia. Founded by Andrea, Arianna, and Ashely, the studio designs buildings, interiors, exhibitions and experiences that make space for people – emotionally, culturally, and physically.

Their work is rooted in a deep understanding of architectural design, public space and the knowledge required to navigate civic processes, community input and cross-industry collaboration. Whether shaping a home, curating a public moment, or developing a brand’s physical presence, they approach every project with clarity, curiosity, and care.

SUPERjury NOMINEE! Cody Kremer (@cody_kremer_sarup), Lauren Dresang (@dresang_lauren_sarup) & Natalie Powers’s (@powers_natalie_sarup) “Chicago Superblocks: Library City” from ARCH 600–800: Common Ground Elective Studio w/ Assistant Professor Palmyra Geraki (@spgeraki).
.
This project reimagines Chicago’s North Loop through an adapted Superblock model focused on community and accessibility. Multiple city blocks are connected into vibrant neighborhoods where interior streets are transformed into greenways, pedestrian paths, and bike routes, reducing the city’s dependence on cars. Vacant spaces become housing and community amenities that activate the streets and rooftops. Inspired by the openness of a library, public resources and gathering spaces are distributed vertically throughout the city and made accessible through visible exterior elevators.
