Author: @ui.sergio with a pretty interesting topic…Post:🖱 @apple worst design mistake (or not?)

-

You and everyone knows what this post is about. The Magic Mouse and its infamous way of charging the battery. Let’s review some facts, myths, and find out why Apple did it this way.

-

1️⃣ If you didn’t know, the only way to charge the mouse is from the bottom.
This make the mouse impossible to use it while charging.

2️⃣ Was it done intentionally for aesthetic reasons?
Since it would be very easy to simply leave the mouse plugged in all the time and look like a “regular old mouse”, this fact could be true.

3️⃣ But if that was true... How could you explain the Magic Keyboard?
The Apple Magic keyboard CAN be used while plugged in, and it looks exactly like a “regular keyboard”.

4️⃣ The previous version wasn’t an issue.
As you know, previous version of the mouse used batteries. This battery layout wasn’t a problem since they could be swapped out and could be used again inmediatly.

5️⃣ The problem starts when they made the transition to rechargeable batteries.
Since the battery is located on the bottom, Apple ran into their biggest problem: the mouse it would be unusable while charging.

6️⃣ So you may ask... Why didn’t Apple just redesign the mouse?
If you think about it, is not really necessary. With 2 minutes of charging you will power the Magic mouse for 9 hours.

7️⃣ This type of charging functionality is common in Apple accessories.
Airpods only need 5 minutes of charge to provide an hour of listening. And the Apple pencil gives you 30 minutes of use with just 15 seconds.

-

✏️ Should Apple redesign the Magic Mouse? Do you see this like a big problem or not?
