As excited as I am to be judging Figma’s first-ever Config Makeathon, I am even more excited to see what everyone makes! (pun intended)

Here are a few things that I think will help your submission standout:

1. Start with an insight. The strongest projects begin with an observation about human behaviour. Think about a frustration, behaviour or unmet need that you or people around you have personally experienced.

2. Re-imagine interaction. Some of the past winners explore things like collaborative embroidery and hands-free interactions. Think beyond taps, scrolls and clicks.

3. Build and test in public. A great behind the scene story can elevate your project and also make people remember you because you did not just build for them, but you build something with them.

4. Use Figma’s ecosystem creatively. Everyone is going to be using Figma make, but if you combine multiple tools, workflows and unexpected approaches, you will stand out.

5. Use constraints as a feature. some of the most interesting projects exist because the builder embraced a limitation.

So, go and build. that. idea.

a tldr bcs my narrator is YAPPING so much:
- studied computer engineering, tried to love it but failed

- randomly took graphic design gigs

- had to sit for dev role interviews

- came across ux design in last sem of my college and @uxresearchdiaries was there for my rescue

- studied ux for 6 months

- started my full time dev role in june and resigned in august bcs I FOUND A DESIGN INTERNSHIP!!!

come spend a day with me, but i have one rule… i get to work on my side project on the go using @replit mobile ⭐

i’ve been meaning to add a few more effects to this video effects app i built, but life has been busy. usually, i’d spend my weekends at home working on side projects, but i don’t always want to sacrifice my plans just to make time for them.

with replit mobile, i can just pull out my phone and keep building, even when I’m out on a solo date. so yes, my side project is coming with me everywhere now :)

my security checklist before i ship any ai-built app.

i build a lot with ai these days and the one thing i never skip is checking that nothing sensitive is exposed. this is what i run through every time, using replit.

deploy on https only. sensitive data shouldn’t be travelling around unencrypted. replit serves everything over https by default.

no api keys in your code. if the browser can see it, so can a user. replit secrets keeps your keys and credentials out of your codebase entirely.

validate user input. never assume something is safe just because it came from your ui. replit agent can add validation and sanitization wherever users are putting stuff in.

csrf protection on forms and anything state changing. you don’t want another site tricking your users into actions they didn’t mean to take. replit agent helps implement this too.

i’d rather catch this stuff while i’m building than go back and audit it after i’ve already shipped.

comment “replit” and try this a thermal blob tracker i built from scratch using @replit

✨how it works:

upload any video with bright points (fireworks, fairy lights, sparklers)

the app detects bright regions frame by frame

each blob gets tracked across frames with a stable ID
brightness gets mapped to a thermal heatmap — dark stays transparent, mid-tones go blue/cyan, bright areas glow yellow to white

red outlines + connection lines tie it all together

export straight from the browser as a webm

✨how i built it:

used an open-source blob detection repo from github (nicholaspjm/web-blob-tracker) instead of writing detection from scratch — way cleaner tracking with less jitter.

the whole thing runs in the browser. nothing leaves your machine.
