About James
James Welsby is a Naarm-based drag artist, choreographer and creative producer with 20 years of professional experience in the performing arts. He is the founder and Artistic Director of internationally acclaimed drag cabaret YUMMY and has performed with artists and companies including Piper’s Playhouse, Taylor Mac, Finucane & Smith, Hannah Gadsby, David Sedaris, Sophie Ellis-Bextor (just once, but it was great!), Bernie Dieter’s Club Kabarett and many more.

A VCA Dance graduate with a Master of Business (Arts and Cultural Management) from Deakin University, James is currently Program Manager at Dancehouse, Australia’s home for independent dance.

And the best part? It’s FREE!

Such a pleasure to perform in Dance Palace by @finucane_smith at Luna Park this week. ✨

I’ve been performing with F&S since 2013, and it’s pretty special to look around all these years later and see how this wild, brilliant art family has grown, shifted and evolved, while still holding onto the magic, generosity and glorious chaos that makes it what it is.

James Welsby is a producer, performer and choreographer with 20 years of professional experience across the performing arts. A VCA Dance graduate, he also holds a Master of Business (Arts and Cultural Management) from Deakin University. He is the founder and director of YUMMY, an internationally touring production company acclaimed with 50+ five-star reviews and major awards.

Maggie ‘Madfox’ Chen is an Australian-based Chinese dancer, artist, arts worker, community producer, filmmaker and photographer. Her work spans multiple mediums that explores reflection, curiosity, and personal expression, capturing emotions and everyday stories.

Melbourne but make it a little bit Paris after dark 🥂 @pipersplayhouse.crown has taken over @crownmelbourne and turned it into a proper Parisian-style cabaret club – velvet, @piper_heidsieck champagne, a bit of mischief and a show that keeps you very entertained all night [INVITE]

Think dancers, live performances and just enough chaos…where one drink turns into three and suddenly it’s much later than planned. After the show, there’s also a piano bar and you can request your favourite songs 🎶
