Willkommen in der Monster-Forschungszentrale! Am 10. Mai öffnet die Staatsoper Hannover ihre Türen zum diesjährigen Kinderfest und lädt Euch ein, in eine geheimnisvolle Welt einzutauchen! Gemeinsam untersuchen wir seltsame Wesen, die unser Zusammenleben manchmal ganz schön auf den Kopf stellen können. ✨

Erlebt faszinierende Shows auf der Bühne – und wenn die Forschenden nicht mehr weiterwissen, seid Ihr gefragt! An verschiedenen interaktiven Stationen im Foyer könnt Ihr zusammen mit den Gewerken der Oper kreativ werden und geniale Lösungen entwickeln, um die Monster-Forschung voranzubringen. Eure Ideen werden schließlich Teil der Fortsetzung auf der Bühne! ✨

A new season at my new opera house with many new (and some familiar ❤️) colleagues. So far, ALL of my operas next season are ones I've already sung.

I have SEVENTY-TWO performed roles, so it's about time some started reappearing!

Germany-based, Australian-born soprano Valda Wilson is renowned for her crystal-clear soprano and powerful dramatic presence across the works of Mozart, Strauss, Handel, Verdi, Puccini and beyond. A consummate musician, she’s equally passionate about contemporary music, recently starring in the title role of Sarah Nemtsov’s Ophelia to critical acclaim.

The 2024/25 season saw her shine in a powerful house debut as Aida and in Holst’s rarely performed The Mystic Trumpeter. At the @staatstheatersaarland, where she has been a principal soprano for several years, Valda captivated audiences with a poignant Suor Angelica and an elegant Violetta (La traviata).

Looking ahead, the 2025/26 season brings a new chapter: Valda joins the ensemble of @staatsoperhannover, taking on roles in Don Giovanni, Der Rosenkavalier, Le nozze di Figaro, and Il trovatore.

Morgen könnt Ihr das Freie Ensemble Dresden im Dresdner Kulturpalast erleben. Im Kammerkonzert der Dresdner Philharmonie werden wir den ganz speziellen Klangkosmos Gabriel Faurés erkunden.

spielt dabei in zwei Werken eine Hauptrolle: sie wandelt ihre Stimme wie ein Chamäleon in Ch. Koechlins Zyklus "Album de Lilian" und schwelgt, träumt und leidet in den Liebesliedern "La Bonne Chanson", welche Gabriel Fauré in Zusammenarbeit mit seiner Geliebten Emma Moÿse - "eine junge, hübsche und elegante Dame von Welt um die Dreißig", schuf.
Valda ist seit 2012 mit dem Freien Ensemble Dresden verbunden und scheut dabei bezüglich Repertoire keine Schwierigkeiten. Und so hat sie sich an verschiedenen Opernhäusern, beginnend am Opernstudio der Semperoper, darauf folgend an den Theatern in Oldenburg, Saarbrücken und demnächst Hannover, ein breites Repertoire erarbeitet. Sie ist weltweit zu Gast, beispielsweise in Kopenhagen, Tokio, San Carlo Verbier und Sydney.

An absolute pleasure to sing in the midst of this sweeping orchestral sound. I would be thrilled to sing this piece over and over again, it is both a joy and a wonderful challenge. 🥰

These are the opening lines, emerging out of the introduction of murmuring strings punctuated by brass.

HARK, some wild trumpeter, some strange musician,
Hovering unseen in air, vibrates capricious tunes to-night.
I hear thee trumpeter, listening alert I catch thy notes,
Now pouring, whirling like a tempest round me,
Now low, subdued, now in the distance lost.

🎉 'Blow again, trumpeter! Conjure war's alarms. Swift to thy spell, a shuddering horn like distant thunder rolls. Lo, where the arm'd men hasten! Lo, mid the clouds of dust, the glint of bayonets! I see the grime-faced cannoneers, I mark the rosy flash amid the smoke. I hear the cracking of the guns!
O, trumpeter - methinks I am myself the instrument thou playest. Thou meltst my heart, my brain, thou movest, drawest, changest them at will.'

An excerpt from our thrilling concert last weekend of Gustav Holst's epic "The Mystic Trumpeter" - I would LOVE to sing this as often as possible! What a buzz! 🥰

Singing with maestro @valentinuryupin was a dream, a fantastic collaborator. Thank you so much.

Many thanks also to intendant @bodobusse for asking me to sing this epic, and to the orchestra of @staatstheatersaarland for their stunning playing.

I also want to give a plug to @vocalkinesthetics who - alongside my teachers Sherman Lowe and Karen Mitzscherling, plus @voicereleasemassage and @singingosteo - really helped prepare me for the mental challenge of this enormous work.
It's like The Planets - but with voice. 😈

"Australian soprano Valda Wilson is a superb Dido with a striking and commanding stage presence and a voice that possesses a wide range of colours and dynamics that fully express the emotional journey undergone by the character.

Wilson has established a substantial European career, performing an extensive repertoire ranging through Handel, Gluck, Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, Puccini, Strauss, and Brett Dean, with a recent world première performance in the title role of Sarah Nemtsov’s Ophelia in Saarbrücken.

Dido is usually portrayed by a mezzo, but Wilson’s rich soprano has an abundance of the tonal depth and warmth required, yet also possesses a thrilling, gleaming quality in the upper range.
It is a very ‘long’ voice: this opens up a huge repertoire, for which Wilson certainly has the physical presence and strength.

As expected, her final aria was beautifully sung, with the stillness, simplicity and spareness in the orchestral accompaniment matched by her sincerity and focus.

It is difficult to imagine this role being portrayed more movingly."

Still, statuesque and every inch a queen, Valda Wilson as Dido stood centre stage.

Wilson sang Dido with a strong, rich sound full of colour, with youthful poise all her own. She began her concluding lament with unassuming stillness and a strong lower register, opening out to an upper range of blossoming crimsons and velvety smoothness.
