From the stones of the Sahara to the stones of Matera.

TEMET makes its artistic debut at @musmamuseo on 3 October 2026, as part of The Sea Is Closer Than You See, curated by @chiaracanaliart, within TERRE IMMERSE — Matera, Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2026. @matera2019

Together with Valentin Ammann, we invite you on a journey into the memory of Algeria’s Tassili n’Ajjer, where ancestral images emerge from the rock and become constellations of light.

Photography, light sculptures and documentary film come together to explore what remains beneath the surface: memory, identity and the enduring presence of those who came before us.

This is our first public chapter. The journey has only just begun.

From the sands of the Sahara to the stones of Matera.

On 3 October, TEMET opened its first public chapter within the extraordinary museum in cave of MUSMA, the only in the world, where sculpture, stone and memory meet.

Guided by the wisdom of the Tuareg, our journey takes us into Algeria’s Tassili n’Ajjer in search of “ghost paintings”, ancestral images whose traces have faded from sight. Through photography, we seek to unveil the invisible and transform it into a new artistic language through the light sculptures of @valentin_ammann .

A documentary, photographs and luminous sculptures come together to connect desert exploration with contemporary art, inviting us to discover the memories that remain beneath the surface.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the vernissage. A special thank you to @chiaracanaliart, curator of the exhibition, together with @simonaspinella , and to @laithqaryouti for editing the short documentary presented in the exhibition.

Thank you to Matera for welcoming this first chapter, to the MUSMA team, and to all the artists we had the privilege of meeting. Sharing our stories, visions and creative journeys made this opening even more meaningful.

We invite you to visit TEMET at MUSMA and explore all the other exhibitions of THE SEA IS CLOSER THAN YOU SEE, within TERRE IMMERSE — Matera, Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2026.

I dipinti fantasma sono dipinti così antichi che si sono sottratti al nostro sguardo, ma esiste un modo per riportarli alla luce.

Origo (2014)

Andromeda, our closest galactic neighbor. In 4 billion years, our galaxies will collide, long after humanity has faded from the cosmic timeline.

By applying a simple symmetry to Andromeda, a form emerged that echoes the universal origin. A reminder of where we all come from.
The piece that started my entire journey.

The Tassili Cypress

10,000 years ago, during the Holocene, this conifer formed a lush forest in the heart of a green Sahara. Today, only a few surviving specimens remain as the final witnesses of an ecosystem swallowed by the sands.
It is currently ranked among the 12 most threatened plant species in the world.

The Battle of Sefar

A ghost painting found in the heart of the Sahara in Sefar (Algeria), often called the largest open-air museum in the world due to the thousands of paintings found there.

Archaeologists describe these as « ghost paintings » because they are now almost invisible to the naked eye.
I used a spectral analysis technique to reveal them.
