At MEGA STILE Anniversary, Valentin Frisch’s Porn Pillows, an installation tracing intimacy, digital desire and queer visual culture, was brought into a new spatial configuration. The work arranges a constellation of printed cushions derived from digitally altered screenshots sourced from gay adult media, all connected through a recurring star shaped tattoo.

For this edition, the installation was situated within a darker, more intimate environment, a curatorial decision that resonated with the charged atmospheres informing the work’s imagery and conceptual core.

By isolating this small ornamental detail, the original context of the images is displaced, and the images’ function is interrupted through repetition, pattern recognition and distance. This shift moves attention from stimulation toward aesthetic and symbolic analysis.

The images have been altered with generative editing tools. Faces and genitals are covered by textile overlays, concealing identities and explicit body parts. This gesture reflects dynamics within gay hookup culture, where physical intimacy often precedes personal disclosure. The masking becomes a metaphor for withheld identity, protection and the ambivalence between closeness and anonymity.

Soft in material yet visually charged, the satin finished cushions contrast invitation and resistance. The work moves between comfort and discomfort, proximity and distance, desire and control.

Conceived as an expanding atlas, the piece invites viewing and physical engagement, proposing a reflective encounter with intimacy, stimulation and representation. A process of self regulation underlies the work, transforming formerly consumptive material into an aesthetic and discursive framework.
