Valentin Ahles (@valentins_visuals) arbeitet in Berlin als freiberuflicher Fotograf, der sich allem voran auf die Analogfotografie spezialisiert hat. Unter dem Namen 'valentinahlesphotography' betreibt er einen YouTube-Kanal, auf dem er ein breites Spektrum an Inhalten teilt, von Tutorials und Produkttests rund um analoge Kameras und Filmmaterialien bis hin zu persönlichen Einblicken in seine fotografische Arbeit.

Nun berichtet er in einem Interview über seine Erfahrungen als einer der ersten Tester der Lomo MC-A (damals noch in ihrer Prototypform). Ergänzt wird der Einblick durch seine eigenen Testaufnahmen, Fotos seines Freundes Nathanael sowie ein am Artikelende verlinktes Video seiner ersten Filmrolle.

Brutalistic Beauty Part VI

Im heutigen und vorerst letzten Post mit Valentin Ahles zeigt uns der Fotograf einige seiner Lieblings-Tageslichtaufnahmen der Uni Regensburg.

Für Valentin ist das Licht der frühen Morgenstunden und der späten Abendstunden besonders interessant.

„Ich liebe es, mich von dem Einfall des natürlichen Lichts über den Campus leiten zu lassen. Dabei ist es vollkommen egal, wo ich mich genau an der UR befinde. Sobald ich einen Lichtstrahl sehe, will ich die Szene entdecken, um herauszufinden, ob dort ein potentielles Foto entstehen kann. Zudem finde ich es auch sehr interessant, wenn sich natürliches und Kunstlicht mischen. Da die Fotografien alle mit analogem Film aufgenommen wurden, weiß ich zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme nie, wie die finalen Ergebnisse aussehen werden, und bin immer wieder auf’s Neue überrascht, wenn ich die Bilder von meinem Labor geschickt bekomme. Die Uni Regensburg mal von einer anderen Seite entdecken!

Heute nehmen wir euch wieder mit und zeigen euch Einblicke in das Projekt „Brutalistic Beauty“ von Valentin Ahles.

Mit seiner Sammlung, die inzwischen knapp 700 analoge Fotografien des Campus umfasst, setzt er die Architektur der Universität Regensburg immer wieder neu in Szene.

Brutalistic Beauty 🧱 Part IV

Heute zeigen wir erneut Einblicke aus Valentin Ahles Langzeit Projekt “Brutalistic Beauty.” Das Projekt umfasst mittlerweile knapp 700 analoge Fotografien der Universität Regensburg.

“Meine Faszination mit der Architektur des Campus der UR begann bereits lange Zeit vor meiner fotografischen Karriere. Als ich dann 2021 mit der analoge Fotografie begann, wurde die Uni schnell zu einem meiner fotografischen Lieblingsorte. In den letzten 5 Jahren habe ich es zu einem Ritual gemacht, bei meinen Familienbesuchen in Regensburg jedes Mal mindestens einen Ausflug an die Uni zu machen.
Ich fotografiere die Uni sowohl tagsüber als auch nachts, letzteres finde ich besonders entspannend, da ich mich dann einfach über den meist menschenleeren Campus treiben lassen kann und blind meiner Neugierde und Intuition folgen kann.”

Had a lot of fun with the Kodak Snapic A1, a 99$ point and shoot camera with a 25mm lens and fixed 9.5 aperture + 1/100s shutter speed. I really enjoyed the limitations of the camera and I was really surprised by the sharpness of the lens. I’ll be posting a review on the camera in a couple of weeks on my YT account, so stay tuned for that.

Shout out to @dmjoao for borrowing me this camera and to @realalexdole for the film :)

Film was (as always) developed and scanned by the best @film.speed.lab

Proudly presenting some of my favorite photographs of the year, maybe even ever. 🎉

The Widwideluxf8 was the perfect choice to capture this wonderful piece of nature that is Fanal Forest.

I thought I’d switch it up a bit with the different formats, the videos and the close ups. Hope you enjoy ☺️

They were all scanned on a 14k scanner by Silbersalz, Instagram is probably compressing the files really badly though haha.
