It is Wabanaki (People of the First Light) tradition to greet and celebrate dawn as it comes into the rest of North America. It is also tradition to welcome people from water onto land. On Saturday, October 18th, Upper Valley community members and artists gathered at sunrise to do both as they welcomed @yoyoma and his We Are Water collaborators @jdutchermusic @noodlz2009 (and many others!) from the Kwenitekw (Connecticut River) onto Kendal Riverfront Park for a sunrise celebration. Nature was the strongest binding of this celebration. The clouds, the sun, the mist, the Kwenitekw, and even an eagle that flew overhead as we docked all came together for the sole purpose of bringing community members together and celebrating what connects us all: water. When audience members on land would clap, pontoon boats would honk, and kayakers would slap the water. We were all united, we are all united, by water.

This was also my first professional project (!!!!!!!) and I’m incredibly lucky to have shared it with such passionate and welcoming people. I want to highlight that this celebration simply would not have been possible without @nadstagramm @dartmouth.hokupaa @ledyardo, and of course, @hopkinscenter . Thank you for bringing us together for this once in a lifetime opportunity with the best Classical musician the world has ever known. (I can’t believe that is not a hyperbole).
