We’re beyond thrilled to share that The Bookstore That Never Sleeps has taken home Best Canadian Short Documentary and the Audience Choice Award for Best Short Documentary at Lunenburg Doc Fest.

Screening to two packed, sold-out audiences right here in Lunenburg was the absolute best way to bring the film home. Having our local community stand behind this story is something we’ll hold onto for a long time.

A heartfelt thank you to the festival team, the jury, and everyone who showed up and supported this film from day one. Huge gratitude as well to our incredible crew for bringing so much craft, care, and heart to every step of this journey.

Most of all, endless gratitude to Christopher Webb for opening his doors and trusting us to share his story with the world.

This one is for everyone who believes in the magic of stories, bookstores, and the people who keep them alive.

We are still buzzing from our screening at Anchor Fest. It was an absolute privilege to be part of such a stellar lineup of music, comedy and film.

There is an unmistakable magic to the arts community here, where storytelling runs deep and local talent pushes boundaries. Anchor Fest proves just how vibrant and essential the island’s creative heartbeat truly is.

It was truly magic to be part of.

Huge thanks to the programming team for including our film in the lineup and everyone behind the scenes who made the entire weekend so special.

What an incredible night in Buffalo! 🎬

Huge thank you to the Buffalo International Film Festival programming team and our presentation partners at Just Buffalo Literary Center for hosting The Bookstore That Never Sleeps. It was an absolute honour to share our film at the beautiful North Park Theatre.

We loved being a part of the BIFF Shorts: Chapters program. The storytelling on display was deeply inspiring, and it was a privilege to share the screen with your work.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who came out, watched, and stayed for the Q&A. Bringing Chris Webb’s story and a piece of Lunenburg down to Western New York was so memorable.

For Justin Zoras, a love of movies that started with making backyard films with friends eventually became a career in film and television.

After studying Broadcasting and Film at Centennial, Justin built hands-on production experience, made industry connections and landed an internship with Canadian director Bruce McDonald. Those connections continued to open doors throughout his career.

Today, Justin is the founder and creative director of Sink Pictures. He has worked on more than 150 episodes of The Curse of Oak Island and is now taking his latest documentary, The Bookstore That Never Sleeps, through the film festival circuit.

His advice for aspiring filmmakers? Be a sponge. Say yes to opportunities to learn, create and help others.

Bringing this film home to the Atlantic provinces was always going to be meaningful, but nothing could have prepared us for the response. We were so fortunate to be part of three sold-out screenings, one at the Atlantic International Film Festival in Halifax and two at Lunenburg Doc Fest, and looking out into those packed theatres was deeply special. To see the community turn up in full force reminded us why we tell stories in the first place.

We are so grateful to both festivals for welcoming our film, and for programming us alongside such inspiring, brilliant work. Sharing the screen with so many talented filmmakers and watching their films was an absolute privilege.

Taking home Best Canadian Short and The Audience Choice Short from Lunenburg is such a humbling bonus, but those awards really belong to our whole team and the town of Lunenburg. Everyone poured so much care and effort into this project, and getting to celebrate side by side in person was the real gift.

A massive thank you to everyone who filled a seat, to our amazing community, and to a certain evening-only bookstore for giving us the sweetest late-night sanctuary.

Nova Scotia, thank you for wrapping your arms around this story - it’s yours. 🫶 taken in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia by @valhallarising

During the Q&A at @lunenburgdocfest, director Justin Zoras answered the question everyone was dying to ask:

The Bookstore That Never Sleeps and Being Still are honoured to be part of Lunenburg Doc Fest’s opening night lineup, celebrating our local community and local storytelling.

In Being Still, four photographers across Atlantic Canada slow time using glass plates and celluloid film, using light and chemistry to transform their surroundings and reminding us what it means to truly see. Paired right beside it, The Bookstore That Never Sleeps steps behind the nocturnal doors of Elizabeth’s Books here in Lunenburg, capturing late-night visitors, memory, and the enduring pull of a storefront light.

We’ve SOLD OUT advance tickets for both screenings.

If you missed out on advance tickets, both shows are now RUSH LINE status, so be sure to arrive early at the door.
