Professor Gianni and I co-led Judo last night, bringing Judo and Jiu Jitsu together exactly where they belong: side by side, feeding each other.

Judo needs Jiu Jitsu, and Jiu Jitsu needs Judo.

🇺🇸 63 YEARS OLD. GREEN BELT. #1 IN THE NATION.

Meet Jill.

When I first met her, she looked me straight in the eyes and said, “I’m never competing. EVER.”

Well, that aged beautifully. 😂

Today, at 63 years young, Jill is a competitive judoka, a green belt, and the #1 ranked female athlete in the country in her age and weight division.

Let that sink in.

She’s not playing around. She’s doing JUDO.

Throws. Takedowns. Hard landings. Grueling matches. A combat sport that demands courage and grit.

And she keeps showing up. She keeps competing and proving that the limits we place on ourselves are often the very limits we’re meant to destroy.

We cannot adequately express how proud we are of this woman. Not just because of her ranking, but because she had the courage to become someone she once swore she’d never be.

This isn’t just a story about age. It’s a story about refusing to let fear make your decisions.

To every grappler, every martial artist, every coach, every person who thinks their window has closed:

LOOK AT JILL.

And to Jill, you absolute badass, it is one of our greatest privileges of our coaching careers to stand beside you.

I’m Coach Raq.

I chose the name Valkyrie because it carries everything I believe in: courage, strength, honor, resilience, and grit. That’s judo to me.

Judo teaches you how to fall, how to get back up, how to stay humble, and how to keep moving when things get hard.

And coaching has taught me that leadership is hard too. Sometimes you have to make the difficult choice, not for yourself, but for the betterment of everyone you’re responsible for.

When parents meet me, I want them to feel how deeply I care about their kids. I’m here to support them, nurture them, challenge them, and help grow them into incredible little humans who are ready for a strong adult life.

I like the medals. I love the promotions. But what matters most to me is who our athletes become along the way.

That’s our spirit and culture. 🙏🏼

These athletes showed up, competed, sacrificed, supported each other, and earned their promotion.

And because we had to make it memorable, they finished the night with a full hour of rolling!
