POSTS STORIES REELS

And last but not least: for the RECONNECT trajectory of our ERF programme- autumn cycle 2026- we have selected Jules Davis-Dufayard.
Jules (they/them) is an artist and facilitator, and an apprentice of somatics and transformative justice, living with/in a white trans crip/disabled body. They facilitate experiences within nature to create internal and collective space for growth and transformation, striving to nurture liberatory ways to relate to ourselves, each other, and the webs of relations we are embedded in.

Jules has been training in Loving Conflict, a community practice to develop capacity for generative conflicts, informed by Transformative Justice (growing a culture of repair beyond prisons, blame and punishment). While at ‘t gagel, they have been offering 1-1 Loving Conflict consultations, and creating objects that can serve as tools for Loving Conflict processes. They are exploring ways to weave this practice with seasonal rituals, food and communal eating.

‘At the moment, I’m also fascinated by crip and gut wisdoms, and by practices of herbalism, foraging and eating as everyday and embodied portals to remembering that “the earth isn’t an extension of our bodies, it’s the other way around” (Hospicing Modernity).

‘Through my artistic practice, I hope to develop land and body based seasonal and community care practices which are relevant to the current context of late-stage racial capitalism, and which can contribute to the physical, emotional and spiritual nourishment of current social change movements, in particular to folks in my community who are working at the frontlines of food justice, racial justice and land justice. My practice is adjacent to the artworld in the sense that it sometimes happens in institutions, but mostly happens in gardens, forests, and community events.’

For the FARM trajectory of our ERF programme 2026- fall cycle- we have selected Conor and Joas.

Conor Fitzpatrick is a farmer and food scientist from County Limerick, Ireland who grew up on his family’s suckler farm and is now thinking about how to build a different future for small family farms.
His background is in food science and agricultural research. Conor recently completed his PhD research with Teagasc, UCC and VistaMilk, looking at how factors within dairy foods influence digestion, and works as a Programme Manager with VistaMilk, helping to coordinate research across the agri-food sector.
Alongside this, he is a farmer on his family farm. ‘I’m interested in how a small farm can improve the land and rivers, produce good food and create connections with the wider community while remaining economically viable. I’ve come to ’t Gagel to learn from a farm that is already doing much of this. During my six weeks here, I’m exploring how regenerative farming is learned, shared and turned into everyday practice and what lessons I can bring home to Ireland.’

Our second Farmer in Residence is Joas Otten. With a clear vision for his future, Joas is preparing to start his own regenerative farming business in Romania in 2027, where he hopes to build a farm centred around Black Angus cattle.
During his time as a Farmer in Residence, Joas is eager to develop the knowledge and skills he needs to turn this ambition into a viable business. He wants to learn more about writing a solid business proposal for a regenerative farm, while also exploring the marketing, branding and communication aspects that come with building your own agricultural business.
For Joas, farming is about much more than simply running a business. It is about being connected to the land, working outdoors and creating something with his own hands.
“I love being outside on the farm, working with my hands instead of being locked inside.” by @valleyofthepossible

After another extensive process of carefully making a selection from all the beautiful applications, we are so thrilled to be able to present to you our two new EAT residents for our ERF residency cycle, autumn 2026:
Shuang Xu and Hanne Van Beuningen!

Shuang is a multidisciplinary artist and cook from Shantou, currently based in Rotterdam. Her work explores how plants, food, and craft hold and transmit knowledge across places and generations. Her work brings together botanical knowledge, culinary traditions, and craft practices, attending to explore what is retained, transformed, or lost as they move between contexts. She also considers the histories carried by native and introduced plants, and how their movement can reflect patterns of migration, exchange, and ecological change.

Hanne's work circles around questions of what it means to eat wel in relation to the landscape. How can we be a balancing factor as an eating human, one that enhances diversity and beauty? She explores these questions through different arts and crafts. Some current examples are her exploration into the traditional milling of grains and creating seasonal sourdough breads. Next to that she is part of the Voedselboskeuken collective that organises food forest dinners with exclusive use of ingredients found in dutch food forests. With the Voedselboskeuken she also wrote a cookbook with everyday recipes inspired by seasonal food forest harvest. by @valleyofthepossible

We are so very honoured to be featured in this new book from curator and founder of Moss Piglets- Esther Lu- who was a participant of our 2022 research programme ‘Black Earth, cultivating biodiversity’ in Wallmapu, Chile. The booklaunch is happening at Limestone Books Maastricht this thursday 17.09.2026 at 16.30 hrs. We are already sharing some excerpts in the slides!

About the book: ‘How does a tardigrade enter cryptobiosis? How might a group fall asleep together in a forest? What could we learn from fungi, and from soil? For five years, Moss Piglets has followed the paths of curating, art education, and interspecies learning - turning encounters like these into an artistic practice, learning from the living world, and relearning how art, education, and ecology relate to one another.

Slow Queering Communion: Interspecies Learning Practices with Moss Piglets is Moss Piglets’ first publication, and the first gathering of five years of curatorial research and practice. Beginning in the curatorial field and following its encounters with the more-than-human world, the book develops a body of thinking on rest, metabolism, perception, intelligence, and holobiont pedagogy -and, through curatorial essays, archives, artist conversations, and participatory workshop exercises, invites readers to extend reading into a practice of learning together.’ by @valleyofthepossible

We are very happy to be welcoming our next artist in residence in Chile: María Ulloa from Mexico City. She will be staying with us for a self directed residency period of five weeks. María writes and photographs and its through these practices that she seeks a way of drawing the environment -and the human being in it- closer.

Her current research practice centers on Cantos de la Tierra (Songs of the Earth), a book in progress made up of poems, some kind of aphorisms she calls “monopoemas,” short stories, and unrealized ideas. During her stay at Valley of the Possible, María seeks to root her writing in this territory; its land, its waters, its ways of inhabiting the world, and to find a form for the project beyond the page, at the crossing of word and body. Guided by yoga and meditation, she arrives at this residency as an exercise in listening: to the land, and to what it still has to teach her.

She says: ‘ Lately, more than ever, I firmly believe in the need to fight for what matters. I believe that nature, people, plants and animals are my brothers and sisters. I want to fight for myself in them and for them in myself because, ultimately, I am certain that we are all the same, part of the same whole. I want this land and this culture to teach me what I do not yet know. ‘

Spread the word!

We decided to extend the application deadline for FARM and EAT of our ERF residency programme- autumn cycle 2026-with two more weeks: until June 22nd.
However we are nearing our maximum capacity of 50 applications for our RECONNECT open call. So don’t wait any longer with sending in your proposals. Deadline for RECONNECT closes latest on June 8th.

We have received so many beautiful applications already. Thank you everyone, it’s truly heartwarming to read them🌞 by @valleyofthepossible

An impression of one of the incredible dinners created by our EAT residents - Lucas Kuijl and Federico Colombo- with assistance from the other ERF residents during their stay at Gagel Farm. Its hard to explain what magic comes from having the time and space to experiment as a chef, having access to the abundance of a regenerative farm, being guided by culinary coaches and inspired by FARM and RECONNECT residents.

Point of departure for this supper was the collaboration in the kitchen and discovery in the garden and meadows. The menu created was based on questioning what food truly becomes, when limited by the hunger gap between fall harvest and late spring seasons. Impressed by the bareness of the winter garden, Federico and Lucas devoted themselves to foraging expeditions in the first weeks of their residency. They experimented in the kitchen to capture the flavors, colors, textures and aromas of early spring. Working with dandelion leaves and blossoms, cuckoo flowers, nettles, spruce tips, magnolia blossoms, the last of winter 2025’s carrots and wild garlic they foraged in the forest around them, they created a supper where the Gagel landscape was reflected. A true example of thoughtful care, consideration, love of flavor, technique and nature coming together in the kitchen and among those working in it.

This unique residency is born from a collaboration between Bodemzicht Foundation, Valley of the Possible and Gagel farm. Deadline for our next ERF residency 2026-autumn cycle-closes at June 8th. More information on how to apply via link in bio. by @valleyofthepossible

DRUMS! 🥁

There’s just over a week left to apply for our ERF residency programme - our autumn cycle, perhaps the richest season of the year at Gagel Farm. So if you want to harvest the goodness, don’t sleep on it.

Have you been longing for time away from the pressure cooker of the modern kitchen to develop a practice that supports the transition towards regenerative food systems and cultures? Are you looking for deeper feedback on your proposal for a regenerative initiative of your own? Or do you want to help reconnect our (more-than-human) community through a holistic artistic approach?

ERF consists of three trajectories, each creating space for the situated entanglement of disciplines through the exchange of embodied knowledge, theory, inspiration, and collaboration on a regenerative farm.

Our mission is clear: to facilitate the transition towards regenerative (agri)culture through the cross-pollination of contemporary residencies bringing together artists, cooks and culinary professionals, farmers, and scientists.

From September 6 through October 17, two EAT residents, two FARM residents, and one RECONNECT resident (or duo) will live and work side by side on the farm - and that’s where the magic of abundance happens.

You have until June 8 to send in your proposal.

We had such a beautiful closure of the ERF residency spring cycle! Artists Ikram Handi Mansour, cooks Lucas Kuijl and Federico Colombo and farmers Kerrin Brammer and Francesco Serrão composed together an unforgettable diner.

Following Ikram’s intuition they literally sank us into the soil - in order to reconnect food with soil and our body with place. While smelling the moist earth, we shared an incredibly simple and tasty meal. Vegetables fresh out of our garden cooked above a fire with a delicious fermented sauce in the side. And an egg from our chickens that could be baked together. I’ve never eaten such a direct and pure celebration of our farm food. By keeping it so simple the nutritious taste of a rich soil life came to the service.

Sitting at or in the soil table we were served by the residents, while looking up to them. Roles of cooks, guests and ‘servants’ were subverted. We had to reach far on ground level to share the food from the plates.

While we ate, the residents shared their personal journeys and insights. Sometimes in the form of inspiring words, as Francesco did in reading out Wendell Berry, or they invited us for a gentle farm meditation, as Kerrin did. Ikram reflected on her own relation with soil and earth, Federico served his view on community kitchens, while Lucas opened up about his love for iron and pastry in baking waffels on top of the earth. They all showed another regenerative (eating) culture is not only possible, and it tastes like so much more!

Above all you could feel this group had become a team - one that supports each other on their different regenerative journeys. We are so looking forward to seeing which beautiful projects - from farms, to restaurants to art projects - will further spring from this earth. Such a joy to have had these talented people at the farm for six weeks!

Are you also looking for a unique opportunity to take time for yourself and to develop a personal regenerative pathway as an artist, farmer or cook? Have a look at the open call of our ERF resident programme this autumn (see link in bio). Deadline for applications is on June the 8th. by @valleyofthepossible
