****
World Animal Day? For me, it's every day. They have no voice, and we exploit them for food and entertainment, and destroy the habitat of wild animals for money. Today, even more than yesterday, I will stand up for them. 🐾

💔 Heartbreaking

Get @reshare_app • @leonardodicaprio 🚨Over 2 million acres (800,000 hectares) of forest have burned across the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. 🦧 Link in bio to learn more.

Climate change is making Borneo’s forests drier, hotter and more susceptible to fires, which are often started by people to clear the forests for agriculture. When carbon-rich peatlands like these burn, they also release enormous amounts of stored carbon, further fueling the climate and biodiversity crises.

🔥Over 5 million people have been exposed to wildfire smoke. Bornean Orangutans have been seen fleeing burning forests as their habitat disappears. This orangutan was rescued by BKSDA in Central Kalimantan, supported by BOS Foundation, and is now under veterinary care. Bornean White-bearded Gibbons, which spend almost all of their lives in trees, have few options for escape as fires consume the forests around them.

The government of Indonesia, firefighters, local communities, conservation organizations, wildlife rescuers, and researchers are all responding to the fires. @rewild partners @iucn_greatapes and @iucn_gibbon are working closely with frontline organizations to support firefighting efforts to protect critical forests and wildlife. 🔴 Learn more about these efforts - link in bio.
