5.29.2020 || I originally posted these photos a year ago immediately after the event pictured happened but took them down because I didn’t want to contribute to the notion that Black Lives Matter equates violence and riots. At this point in time you’ve already heard plenty about the movement and you’ve seen me talk about it before so I’ll keep this brief. The protest in these pictures occurred one day after protestors in Minneapolis burned down the quarters of their oppressors and President Trump swore “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” - a phrase with a very specific and racist history in America. I have never, ever been as angry in my life as I was in that moment. This was the very first protest in Oak Park, Sacramento and I knew right away I was going. Sacramento has a history with standing against police violence - most notably in the death of Stephon Clark. Police tyranny has been and still is an open wound for Sacramento. I brought my camera to this event because I think it’s incredibly important to catalogue history so that those who come in the future can put themselves in the past and see all of the blood and tears shed in the name of freedom. America is a racist police state with an armed police force designed and trained to kill Black people and poor people and drug users and lock them behind bars for profit. Peace will never exist as long as our government openly equips its police soldiers with the means to strike down the people of this country. Until justice is achieved, we will never stop marching, we will never stop shouting, we will never stop breaking down the walls that hold up a society that is built on profit and racism. Freedom for all is a cause worth fighting for. taken in Oak Park, Sacramento, California by @vampire.stephen

(1-22-2022) i took these photos when nat and i went out birdwatching in the yolo bypass over two years ago. i can’t pretend to know a lot about birdwatching but i found the experience really therapeutic.

i have a whole gallery’s worth of photos taken over the years piled up on my drive that i have never shared anywhere. i guess over time the passion that i felt for taking pictures faded away and i just gave up on it. i have few regrets greater than letting go of things that make me happy. i’m trying to get myself to pick it up and hopefully start filling out my page again. taken in Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area by @vampire.stephen
